OUR OPENING:
This position is located on Ascension Island.
Summary
The incumbent performs various functions and incidental services associated with maintenance and repair of an array of motorized and non-motorized vehicles and equipment, with special emphasis on heavy equipment.The incumbent performs these duties at a remote location on Ascension Island.
Essential Duties Job Functions
• Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, air, steering and A/C systems.
• Analyzes malfunctions, repairs, rebuilds and maintains equipment such as cranes, excavators, paving machines, motor graders, dozers, heavy trucks, compressors and marine equipment.
• Utilizes modern diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and repair vehicles and equipment.
• Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects.
• Performs mobile maintenance and completes repairs in the field as necessary.
• Dismantles, cleans and reassembles equipment using hoists, hand tools and other equipment.
• Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and measuring devices.
• Repairs and replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions.
• Tests repaired and overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
• Researches and identifies parts required to repair equipment.
• Completes required inspections and documentation to track maintenance.
• Performs normal maintenance on shop equipment and maintains cleanliness of tools and shop area as required.
• Assists with training co-workers when necessary.
• Performs related work as assigned.

• Use of hand and power tools commonly used in the construction trade.
• Understanding and following directions.
• Communicating effectively orally and in writing.
• Performing assigned duties in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience
Mandatory
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of a formal vehicle maintenance training program or apprenticeship.
• A combination of equivalent training and experience may be substituted for formal apprenticeship.
• At least two (2) years of experience maintaining heavy construction equipment.
• Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquires (NACI); or the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance at the Secret level, as applicable to the position requirements.
• Ability to successfully pass any employment background check and/or drug testing required on the contract.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a current US Passport.
• US Citizen.
Preferred
• Experience working on a military or commercial fleet.
• Experience working in a remote location.
• Training and certification on automotive air conditioning.
• Experience with welding, metal cutting and fabrication work.
• Experience with maintaining marine vessels and outboard motors.
