Full Job Description Job Title: Distillery Lab Technician
Reports To: Quality Control Manager
Job Overview: The Distillery Lab Technician tests raw and in process materials and finished products to ensure all are within specifications. They will also advise production and bottling on process modifications as needed to optimize quality.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Calibrate lab instrumentation.
· Test fermenter samples for brix, pH, total acid and % alcohol.
· Run samples on gas chromatograph (GC).
· Monitor bottling line for quality issues, advise bottling line personnel on packaging adjustments as needed.
· Test proof and evaluate sensory properties of bulk and bottling samples to ensure specifications are met.
· Test quality of incoming bulk grain as per specifications.
· Monitor lab inventory, advise re-ordering as needed.
· Maintain and update fermenter/grain logs and spreadsheets as needed.
· Maintain and organize product retains.
· Perform daily and weekly quality tests on Reverse Osmosis water.
· Work on other product development/R&D projects as required.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field (or current student)
• At least 21 years old
• 1-2 years quality, chemistry or distillery lab experience.
• Instrumental experience: GC, UV/Vis spectroscopy
• Self-starter, attention to detail and quality
• Capable of walking/standing for several hours at a time.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
