Job Description

The Human Applications (Cellular Therapy) Laboratory supports the Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy by providing products for patients enrolled in investigator-initiated clinical research protocols. The laboratory supports many treatment trials for cancer and genetic diseases, using primary hematopoietic graft products and genetically modified products for sickle cell disease and CAR T-Cell therapy applications. The Human Applications Laboratory is composed of two sections, the Quality Control Section providing product analysis by flow cytometry and product quality testing for sterility, and the Stem Cell Processing Section providing cellular therapy product processing in accordance with good tissue practices and good manufacturing practices.
Contributing to our mission of finding cures and saving children, we are looking for two candidates to join the Stem Cell Processing Section as a Specialist I. The Stem Cell Processing Specialist I will be responsible for performing complex, highly specialized technical processing procedures, using aseptic technique and maintaining attention to detail for technical and documentation functions.
Schedule : M-F 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm (Rotates on-call coverage)
The Stem Cell Processing Specialist I is expected to perform as follow:
• Accurately prepares appropriate documentation for processing record.
• Performs procedures in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures in an accurate and timely manner.
• Reviews processing record for acceptability, accuracy and completeness.
• Ensures that any discrepancies or errors are reported, in a timely fashion, to the Supervisor or designee.
• Participates in maintaining records to meet standards/requirements of hospital and licensing/accrediting agencies including, but not limited to, the State of Tennessee, FDA, FACT, JCAHO, CAP, and AABB.
• Performs reagent and instrument quality control at the appropriate intervals, interprets and correctly records results.
• Troubleshoots and takes appropriate steps to resolve instrument or procedural malfunctions as directed.
• Assists in maintaining coverage in the laboratory to promote optimal workflow.
Additionally, the selected candidate will have the following s kills and abilities:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in teams and effectively communicate transitions in work processes.
• Excellent mathematical skill, analytical skill, and technical dexterity.
• Ability to function in a clean-roomenvironment and sustain prolonged physical exertion.
Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Medical Technology or a Biological Science required.
Minimum of one (1) year of work in relevant clinical laboratory (immunology, blood banking or other) or two (2) years of relevant cell therapy application experience required.

• For BS/BA in Medical Technology candidates, Certification as a Medical Technologist by ASCP, NCA, or AMT required.
• Tennessee licensure as Medical Technologist preferred.
