Position Purpose
The Tissue Placement Coordinator is responsible for placement and distribution of human eye tissue with surgeons and hospital facilities without compromising the utility of the tissue. Ensures compliance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Good Tissue Practices (GTP’s), Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA), and other state and federal regulatory bodies, and Lions Eye Institute for Transplant & Research (LEITR) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). In some cases, the Tissue Placement Coordinator will assist with the packaging of outgoing tissue. This position requires rotating schedule to include weekends.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Receives requests and supports the placement process for timely delivery of the highest quality transplant tissue for LEITR customers
· Maintains positive business development focus with LEITR customers to help enhance tissue placement opportunities and excellent customer relationships
· Increase domestic and international tissue placement services
· Become knowledgeable of EBAA, FDA, and LEITR policies and procedures
· Ensure all tissue for placement has been signed off on by appropriate Medical Designee
· Ensures that all serological tests are completed and confirmed
· Ensures tissue, medical information and all appropriate materials are within the shipping container following EBAA, FDA and LEITR policies
· Receives, enters, data, and processes requests for tissue from surgeons and institutes
· Interact well with surgeons and surgical staff on donor or tissue related issues
· Distributes, packages and makes arrangements for shipment of tissue via airlines, bus, carrier, etc.
· Evening shift and weekends required on rotating schedule
· Must serve “On Call” rotation
· Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
Degrees in science, nursing, or training as an ophthalmic technician or related field. One to two years of experience in a related field may be substitute for education. Certified as an Eye Bank Technician a plus but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
· Demonstrate exceptional customer service, attention to detail and multitasking skills
· Computer proficiency, including Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite
· Ability to interact with co-workers within and outside of the department
· Ability to effectively prioritize shift activities
· Be a self-starter and work with minimal guidance; work independently as well as in a team environment
· Knowledge of ophthalmic and surgical terminology a plus
· Ability to work weekends, evening and/or holidays as required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per year
