Job Description
Our client is currently seeking Rodmen and Instrument Operators to join their survey team in Tampa. The primary function of the Instrument Operator and/or Rodman position is to assist the Survey Crew Chief in completing the crew's assigned field survey projects.
The survey team in Tampa is currently running 6 crews and has 15 total employees. Our client also has a SUE division in Tampa, with 11 employees. Company has 70 employees between Tampa and Orlando, including Utility coordination, survey and SUE. This person will work on a 2-4 person crew, reporting to a Survey Crew Chief/Party Chief and the Survey Field Supervisor.
They typically work 4 ten-hour shifts (Monday- Thursday), but are currently working 6 days/week and average work weeks are 50 hours. There is moderate travel out of town ($52/day per diem), with no weekend travel required.
Essential functions and responsibilities include:
Transmits survey data to proper files in the computer network and acquire data for field use.
Accurately and efficiently clears line, establish points, tape, chain, and level for field survey projects as assigned by Crew Chief.
Keep crew's assigned vehicle clean, properly maintained, and stocked with the necessary equipment and supplies as instructed by the Crew Chief. Report any mechanical or safety related problems to the Crew Chief.
Load for transportation, clean and store field surveying equipment used by the crew.
Communicate and coordinate effectively with other crew members to facilitate the timely and accurate completion of assigned projects.
Observe all safety guidelines and procedures, particularly when working around traffic or on active construction sites.
Accurately identify the various types of trees encountered while performing field survey work.
Assist in the training of entry level rodmen as requested.
Cuts and clears brush and trees from line of survey.
Stand, walk, use hands, tools, controls, reach with arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as well as lift and/or move up to 50-75 pounds.
Qualifications:
Must be capable of and have experience performing physical work in the Florida elements (heat, bugs, snakes, spiders, etc.) for 10-hour days.
Must be willing to travel out of town during the week.
Must be reliable and motivated to work hard, learn and progress in their career.
Must have the aptitude to learn the survey industry, with good basic math skills, and the ability to communicate affectively (verbal and written).
Prefer candidates with experience in survey, construction, landscaping, or another transferable trade.
