Security Operations Center Analyst
Hourly Wage: $12-15/hour, depending on experience.
Average Number of Hours per Week: Up to 20
Schedule: Monday - Friday, F lexible around class schedule within business hours of 8:00 AM. – 5:00 PM. Potential to work remotely.
Job Description Overview: This position will work within Cyber Florida’s Security Operations Center Analyst Program and within the Florida Cyber Hub. The Jr Cloud Security Analyst will work with security tools such as a SIEM, DLP, IDP, threat reports and other security tools to identify incidents and threats.  The analyst will be responsible for completing incident reports, producing threat advisories and reports, and handling issues according to established procedures and guidelines. The analyst will also perform troubleshooting of technical issues, provide technical support to business partners and end users, as well as create and update technical documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities may include:
Security Operations Center
• Work with security applications (SIEM, Threat Intel Applications, IDS, etc.)
• Analyze and respond to security alerts. Provide updates to end-users and more senior security staff.
• Analyze and investigate security data from a range of security tools and resources.
• Research trends and current precautions for cybersecurity vulnerabilities, exploits, and other potential threats.
• Research threats and monitor feeds to produce cyber threat intelligence reports.
• Prepare detailed threat advisories with recommendations and indicators of compromise.
• Make recommendations on improvements to workflows and processes.
• Become familiar with Amazon Web Services (AWS) such as: Workspaces, EC2 instances, and security groups. Create and maintain golden images (AMIs) for deployment within an AWS environment.
• Conduct and provide incident response support when required.
• Keep up to date with cybersecurity software and hardware tools and resources.
• Communicate effectively with clients while thoroughly documenting conversations, exchanges, or sessions into ticketing systems.
Florida Cyber Hub
• Provide technical support to faculty members with the onboarding of new courses and labs.
• Installation, administration, and maintenance of Cyber Florida systems. Support in-office technology needs (employee computers, printers, and phones).
• Perform software installations and upgrades to operating systems and software applications.
• Act as a point of escalation to resolve requests or issues from end users.
• Create cybersecurity capture-the-flag challenges (CTF) and exercises. Maintain and update current CTF challenges and scoreboard.
• Implement and enhance technology standards based on best practices – ensuring high system availability and providing an architecture that is easily sustainable, compatible, and scalable for future implementations.
• Ensure the timely resolution of support request from end-users.
Other Cybersecurity / Information Technology Support
• Provide support for hardware and software for end-users and business partners.  Handle support tickets in the desktop support database.  Create documentation on install processes, troubleshooting techniques, and specific problem resolution for use by fellow co-workers and administrators.
• Support office and academic system software residing on local user PC’s, servers, and networked devices including physical and virtual machines, multiple operating systems, and databases.
• Perform routine security tasks in support of the systems for the Security Operations Center.
• Review security tools and create status reports according to schedule and need.
• Create documentation on processes, troubleshooting techniques, and specific problem resolution for use by fellow co-workers and administrators.
• Perform other information technology duties as required to support various Cyber Florida initiatives and projects.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a current USF student with at least 12 months remaining until graduation.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the minimum qualifications, preferred applicants will be currently working towards a degree or have prior education in cybersecurity, computer science or a related degree field.  Customer service experience is preferred.
Special Skills:
• Basic understanding of how to work with a Windows PC.
• Strong interest in cybersecurity and technology.
• Basic level of proficiency with Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Kali, etc.).
• Familiar with AWS Cloud Services and Java.
• Basic level of understanding of cybersecurity exercises, training, or procedures.
• Student must be responsible, reliable, and dependable.
• Student must exhibit excellent communication skills, be punctual, detail oriented, and demonstrate initiative and a willingness to learn and help.
• Student must handle confidential information in a professional and ethical manner and abide by all applicable legal requirements.
