Career Category Finance Job Description Amgen is searching for a Senior Associate to join our General & Administrative (G&A) and Treasury Accounting team. The Senior Associate will report to the Manager, Accounting, and will work out of the Amgen Capability Center located in Tampa, Florida.
The Senior Associate will play a key role in executing accounting and reporting activities and ensuring compliance in the areas of payroll accounting. In addition, they will serve as a backup for accounts payable accounting.
Primary responsibilities will include the following: • Timely and accurate reconciliation of payroll general ledger accounts (i.e. payroll clearing accounts, open payroll checks, etc.). Escalation of reconciling items not clearing timely.
• Oversight of the timely and accurate reconciliation of general ledger accounts prepared by the outsourced & off-shore accounting service provide team.
• Partner with accounts payable, payroll operations and treasury on the unclaimed property process for payroll escheatment’s.
• Perform quality control reviews of the payroll accounting calculations and transactions.
• Manage Payroll BOT process, including providing BOT input, reconciling and analyzing Payroll BOT results to ensure accuracy before processing into the SAP financials, and working with key external vendors to resolve any data issues or BOT failures.
• Partner with tax regulatory, payroll operations and payroll tax, and key external vendors to ensure accounting controls are appropriate, consistently followed and are current.
• Determine and produce reports needed to prevent and detect issues that could improperly impact the financial statements.
• Provide payroll accounting support and expertise to internal stakeholders including analysis of expenses and changes to balance sheet accounts.
• Complete payroll accounting work such as general ledger account setups in the payroll system, reporting of payroll accounting data, performing calculations and adjusting entries in a timely, accurate, compliant manner.
• Research and resolve internal and external audit requests for payroll accounting data and analysis.
• Suggest improvements to processes and works well with project teams in planning and execution.
• Determines the need for new accounts and revisions in the account structure.
• Partner cross-functionally on payroll and accounting related ad-hoc projects
• Serves as backup for accounts payable accounting processes
Basic Qualifications: Master’s degree
Or Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of Accounting or Finance experience
Or Associate’s degree and 6 years of Accounting or Finance experience
Or High school diploma/GED and 8 years of Accounting or Finance experience
Preferred Qualifications: • 2+ years of relevant experience in accounting functions
• Experience with ERP systems (preferably SAP), ADP and Workday
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and ability to multi-task and establish priorities
• Ability to communicate and collaborate cross-functionally in an organization
• Detailed oriented and highly motivated
• Strong project management and leadership skills
• Experience with Tableau, Alteryx or similar program
