Overview / Job Summary
Commonwealth Rolled Products is a leading manufacturer of Aluminum rolled products for the Automotive, Commercial, and Industrial markets. The Company operates its production facility in Lewisport, KY with the support of an Automotive Innovation Center for R&D,  Sales and Field Service in Madison Heights (DET), and Inside Sales in the Cleveland, OH area.
Our production facility is seeking an Environmental Engineer for our Health, Safety & Envrionmental (HSE) team. This position provides direct staff support; articulates regulatory impact on operations to upper management; investigates, and recognizes and recommends corrective actions on environmental compliance issues and continuous improvement actions.
Responsibilities Include
• Actively participate in maintaining a zero incident safety culture.
• Live and champion the Commonwealth Rolled Products core values; Safety, Integrity, Customer Focus, Ownership, Excellence, and Teamwork.
• Comply with all safety standards and regulations.
• Supports the environmental function and activities and has site-wide environmental control plan input.
• Maintains knowledge of current and proposed federal, state, and local environmental regulations to help prepare, revise and implement required permits, licenses, orders and decrees.
• Collects and maintains accurate records as required by federal, state and local regulatory authorities. Reports any noncompliance or malfunction issues in a timely manner to facility management. Participates in any federal, state and local environmental-related inspections.
• Communicates with and maintains professional relationships with environmental agency personnel. Works with facility HSE team to negotiate any compliance issues and enforcement actions as well as provide required reports.
• Works collaboratively with plant operational staff. Recommends, develops and implements policies, procedures and systems that meet/surpass the standards set by relevant legislation and regulation.
• Develops and presents training programs that support good environmental practices and ensure compliance with State and Federal agency regulations. Attends the training programs necessary to fulfill the role responsibilities.
• Manages the collection and evaluation of analytical data and other environmental information to assess site compliance. Maintains and stores environmental data, records and documents in a confidential manner. Provides summary analysis as required by legal and corporation requirements.
• Audit environmental processes and programs for the facility.
• Assists with management of water treatment systems and controls, storm water management, spill control plans and waste management and reduction techniques.
• Assists with maintaining certifications of environmental management systems such as ISO 14001.
• Provides technical expertise and leadership for on-site environmental emergency response situations or for incidents that occur during the off-site shipment of material.
• Assists with maintaining air program compliance including Title V permitting and NESHAPS regulations. Knowledge of subparts RRR and SSSS a plus.
• Assists with community right-to-know reporting including the TRI program.
Required Qualifications
• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a HSE field (preferably Environmental Science) or related science.
• Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Must have the ability to contribute and participate in a team environment.
• Ability to accomplish assigned tasks, provide feedback, construct plans, and demonstrates confidence in team leader and member roles.
• Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work of the role.
• The ability to recognize and analyze critical issues, identify and assign resources and follow-up to task completion.
• Able to apply sampling and analysis protocol to provide accurate data and to explain and train others in sampling protocol.
• Basic knowledge of water treatment systems and controls, storm water management, spill control plans, waste management and reduction techniques and environmental management systems such as ISO 14001.
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous environmental experience a plus.
