What you’ll be doing...
This planning role leads responsibilities for the evolution and development of VCP Far Edge Architecture. VCP is the Verizon Cloud Platform currently based on Kubernetes and Openstack supporting Control Plane and User Plane Network Functions for IMS, EPC and 5G Core Network Functions. In this role, you will be responsible to plan for the VCP Far Edge Containerized Network functions which will reside on the Far Edge Platform. Due to the inherent complexity of the RAN Distributed Unit it is necessary to ensure there is a tight configuration with the Real Time OS powered CaaS. Our team has the responsibility to ensure the proper planning on a per application basis is conducted in advance of certification in the Maintenance Engineering Lab.
You will be working at the forefront of technology driving the transformation of Verizon’s Infrastructure to a modern Cloud Infrastructure leveraging Software-based automation while providing Robust Visibility, Error Detection and Auto-Recovery, with Verizon-Scale to support all services offered by Verizon, and being cost-efficient. You will work with RAN, Network Operations, Maintenance Engineering and IT teams to ensure the resulting platform and the CNF applications running on it can be effectively automated and orchestrated to increase Verizon’s agility and speed of deployment. Your role will involve strategy development and implementation, including the creation of roadmaps to ensure platform projects deliver on-time and on-budget. As a subject matter expert, you’ll build strong cross functional relationships and work to ensure all projects are aligned with business objectives.
• Leading the integration & design of vRAN (vDU/CU) on Highly Distributed Cloud Platforms at Far Edge locations (CRAN & DRAN)
• Develop best practices and guidelines for vDU / vDU vendors for deployment in VCP Far Edge.
• Develop RTOS and Cloud Platform configurations optimized to support vRAN.
• Promoting vRAN2.0 vendors to evolve their products into Cloud-Native Microservices designed to run on Kubernetes, while supporting high resiliency, robust error recovery, elasticity, and software upgrade velocity.
• Working with vRAN2.0 vendors to ensure Platform fulfills target workload requirements (incl. RTOS, 1588v2 time accuracy, FPGA/Accel support, Security @Rest and Distributed cloud deployment).

You’ll need to have:
• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of experience.
• Six or more years of relevant work experience.
• Proven experience in one or more of the following areas: Radio Telecommunications, Virtualization, Cloud technologies.
• Expert-level knowledge of 5G RAN architecture & O-RAN technologies.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Even better if you have:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and/or Telecommunications or any other related field.
• Linux experience including system architecture understanding.
• Expert-level understanding of Kubernetes architecture & design.
• Distributed Systems Theory and practical real world experience.
• Systems Design Expertise, including experience in building large real-world systems.
• Experience managing large cross-functional or enterprise-wide projects.
• Project management experience, with strong leadership skills, and the ability to drive teams to consensus.
• You are an experienced leader who is adept at negotiating and communicating with leaders and executives at all levels of the organization.
• The ability to learn new technologies quickly that helps you toperform independent system analysis, design and plan implementation as well as pay attention to details and quality objectives.
• Experience working in Open Source forums, with proven ability to influence requirements & direction.
• Programming background with the ability to work in Agile/Scrum driven culture.
• Self-starter, ability to complete project with minimal guidance.
