JOB TITLE: Elementary School Administrative Intern or Elementary School Assistant Principal (contingent upon certification)
CLASSIFICATION: Certified
REPORTS TO : Principal
JOB GOAL : The Administrative Intern/Elementary School Assistant Principal is responsible for general supervision of students, monitoring and promoting a positive school atmosphere, maintaining a safe and orderly school environment, implementing a student behavior management program, providing support for school staff in addressing student academic progress and behavior, and to help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must hold valid Kentucky Teacher Certificate
• Professional Certificate for Instructional Leadership-Principal All Grades or Guidance Counselor Certification, preferred.
• Minimum of five years’ experience teaching in an elementary school.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
• Standard practices in Instruction and Leadership
• Assessment, Accountability, and Standards
• Analyzing school/student data and making data-driven decisions
• Maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, students and support staff
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
• Ability to assist with the enforcement of attendance laws and regulations and encourages regular and punctual attendance of pupils.
• Ability to work with principal, staff, students and parents on strategies that assist in continuously improving student achievement and instruction.
• Ability to coordinate with other district and school administrators to create a positive, safe, and caring learning environment.
• Ability to assist in establishing a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively and constructively with members of the school district and community.
• Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.
• Ability to supervise, direct, motivate, and work with certified and classified staff.
• Ability to model commitment and dedication to work.
• Ability to work independently and without supervision, and complete work in an efficient manner.
• Ability to provide effective discipline and guidance of assigned students/grade levels.
• Ability to prepare for meetings and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
• Ability to employ a variety of instructional leadership techniques to set and maintain a culture of high performing schools.
• Ability to implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
• Ability to help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment.
• Ability to provide individual counseling and group guidance to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic, career, and family concerns.
• Ability to consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the educational needs and abilities of students.
• Ability to update and maintain confidential student records, including cumulative transcripts and student files
• Ability to makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms through appropriate parent -teacher conferences.
• Ability to supervise pupils in and out of classroom activities during the assigned work day and evening activities.
• Ability to attend and participates in required meetings and serves on assigned committees.
• Ability to keep current on changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing concerns of mutual interest with others in the field.
• Ability to represents the school in the community effectively and in a positive manner.
• Ability to meet the Standards and Indicators set forth in the Certified Personnel Evaluation Plan.
• Ability to abide by the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified School Personnel.
• Ability to adhere to the requirements of any District or school employee handbook, Owensboro Board of Education policies, and all applicable laws and regulations.
• Ability to perform all other functions deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor that are reasonable and are covered by local board policy or law.
• Ability to act in accordance with the by-laws and policies as set forth by the Owensboro Board of Education, KRS and KAR, and applicable Federal laws and regulations.
• Ability to demonstrate loyalty and dedication to the purposes and goals of the Owensboro Public Schools.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor, environmentally controlled.  Typical office environment including but not limited to telephones, personal interruptions, background noises.  May require working with or near the public, parents, and children and will be subject to sounds, scents, and other related environmental factors.  This position will require dealing with conflict and requires use of sound judgement.
