Full Job Description COMMENTS: Mizkan America has an opening for an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager in our Owensboro, Kentucky Plant. Mizkan America is a high-speed food processing and packaging facility which produces Ragu brand and Bertolli brand pasta and cooking sauces and distributes brands throughout North America. This job description reflects assignment of essential functions. It does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for the site-wide environmental, health and safety systems. The position leads and/or provides support to various cross functional teams including the Safety Pillar, Safety Committee and the TPM program. In addition, the EHS Manager facilitates the development of policies and systems which are aligned to Mizkan’ s EHS policies and implements and upgrades these systems via a systematic continuous improvement approach.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for safe, accident-free work environment.
• Responsible for leadership and direction of hourly safety technicians through positive employee relations.
Drives and sustains skill improvement among direct reports and implements a regular and recurring EHS training program to ensure regulatory compliance, workforce awareness and zero accidents.
• Develop and maintain EHS systems for the site, in compliance with Company Policies/Guidelines and Governmental regulatory requirements.
• Drive plant safety, health, and environmental results through establishment of safety, environmental and financial targets to reduce risk and improve cost.
• Leads and directs the site Safety Observation Program and database to ensure workforce is in compliance with established targets and that data is tracked and countermeasures are prioritized and established.
• Provide Technical information/advise/feedback, to leadership and workforce on EHS issues, process troubleshooting and Mizkan policies and guidelines.
• Drive continuous improvement by leading the Safety Pillar using TPM methodology.
• Measures and reports on TPM performance.
• Manages the implementation of change for new processes, programs, and ways of working within the scope of the position.
• Supports site audits as required of the position through evidence of required policy and practice.
• Provides leadership and counsel to ensure that site ammonia system is in compliance with all Process Safety Management Guidelines.
• Responsible for the compliance with Environmental Regulations and ensures timely application, renewal and/or reporting of Air Permit, Kentucky DAQ Emissions Data and related reports which apply to the site.
• Works with and cooperates with RWRA staff and leads, coordinates, and supports Wastewater Inspection program and related reporting
• Identifies the hazards and risks associated with the activities they and their teams plan to the currently undertake, taking appropriate steps to minimize these risks to an acceptable level.
• Develops procedures and then manages crisis and emergency incidents.
• Responsible for maintaining site Safety, Environmental, Health and Worker’s Compensation records in an organized and confidential manner.
Responsible for supervision of three (3) hourly safety technicians
Provide leadership and support to site projects through effective interface and communication with R&D, Engineering, Logistics, Production, Human Resource, Quality and Finance teams as required of the position.
Ability to lead and coordinate external auditors and/or government officials (OSHA, EPA, local RWRA, et al) in the conduct of audits and inspections.
Must be able to work across multiple shifts and shift schemes
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field
Experience in Industrial Hygiene, OSHA Record Keeping, Worker’s Compensation, Accident Investigation, Electrical Safety, Risk Management and Process Safety Management
Experience in permit and report writing for environmental, chemical, and local wastewater requirements.
Able to communicate externally/internally with suppliers, company leaders and stakeholders in an effective manner
Competence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power-point)
Excellent communication skills
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Strong Computer Literacy skills.
Ability to travel when needed.
Willingness and flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines.
Ability to exhibit a professional business-like appearance and demeanor.
