About the Team
At Fanatics, our Business Affairs & Legal team plays an integral role into why we are the #1 licensed sports, omni-channel retailer. This team is known for negotiating and drafting long-term, exclusive deals with professional sports teams, universities, event promoters, and athletes. They are trusted advisors in counseling our business teams with day-to-day matters as well as key strategic initiatives. This division is critical to the success of the overall company strategy and our mission to become the #1 Fan Brand in the world.
Fanatics is seeking a motivated, team-oriented lawyer with 2-5 years of transactional law experience (law firm experience preferred, in-house experience not required) in Tampa. The Assistant Legal Counsel will report to the Associate General Counsel, Fanatics Brands and provide support across the Global Legal Team.
General Duties & Responsibilities: • Primarily supports the Fanatics Brands business on global matters
• Manages a variety of assigned legal projects. Protects the enterprise’s rights in contract negotiations, settlements, litigation, and business practices
• Prepares policy and agreement drafts, opinions, and various documents. Negotiates and drafts contracts as requested by Sales, Supply Chain, Sustainability, Trade, Strategy and other management representatives
• Renders opinions and advice regarding the interpretation of contract provisions, intellectual property laws, and other business law issues including corporate organization, mergers and acquisitions and governance
• Performs legal research and analysis in preparation for litigation or other legal actions. Examines pertinent information (e.g., interview notes, historical precedent, etc.) to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting litigation
• Acts as advisor on legal issues concerning legal rights, obligations, and privileges
• Coordinates legal matters handled by outside counsel
Educational Requirements: • Requires a law degree, such as a Juris Doctor or other comparable degree, and admission to practice law
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Demonstrated experience in general corporate matters including corporate organization, securities compliance, drafting transactional documents, M&A, license agreements, employment law, intellectual property, regulatory matters, risk management, asset-backed financing, and contract management
• Experience in trade secrets, advertising law, registration, and other resolutions specific to the computer and technology industry as well as SEC reporting
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to be appropriate to the audience and avoid technical jargon
• Effectively deals with issues that are complex, confidential, and sensitive in nature
• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and time management skills
• Effective team building, coaching, and persuasion skills
• Self-starter and able to work without significant supervision or oversight
• Intermediate to advanced negotiation skills with regard to complex issues and data
