POSITION SUMMARY:
This professional position assists departmental contacts such as faculty, Principal Investigators, and administrative staff by reviewing and administering assigned contracts and awards made to USF from external sponsors.  The primary purpose of this position is to assist faculty in searching, applying and obtaining relevant research projects, and then monitoring those research projects for compliance.  This position is also responsible for reconciling accounts, providing budget and financial information, giving guidance and direction on proper budget/expenditure procedures and financial control.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Finds and promotes grant and contract opportunities.  Identifies sources of funding for the conduct of research and/or services programs.  Reviews proposal guidelines with faculty.  Provides technical assistance and guidance to facilitate the development, administrative review, and funding process for faculty.  Coordinates internal proposal submissions and approvals, including the review of internal forms for compliance.  Meets with faculty regarding budget preparation and questions, works with department chairs on resource commitments.  Reviews applications for research projects for format, completeness and accuracy.  Assists in the preparation of grant proposals and budgets.
• Works with Sponsored Research to set up all new grant and contract awards.  Acts as a liaison with fiscal offices on setting up new accounts.  Works with Principal Investigators on processing expenses, including travel, purchases, and new hires. Ensures all expenditures are in compliance with grant/contract guidelines, OMB circulars, USF policies and procedures, and any other guidelines that may apply.
• Prepares and develops financial projections/forecasts, budget control systems, cash management systems, etc. and works with management and PIs on financial planning and reporting.  Reconciles ledgers, processing any necessary corrections and resolving any discrepancies. Analyzes budget to actuals and advises management/faculty/PIs of potential areas of over/under allocations and when any budget transfers need to take place. Submit budget and activity reports to Research Financial Management, Sponsored Research, Chairs, PIs, College Management.
• Keeps statistics on unit research activities. Develops and updates a database on college research proposals and awards, institutional Review Board steps, dates that reports are due, and vitae of researchers.  Provides reports on activities to administrators.  Makes presentations to faculty, administrators and management on research proposal development, fiscal compliance and college grant and contract activities.
• Serves as a liaison between Muma College of Business Dean's Office and other College departments by providing customer service support and problem solving for Office Managers, Chairs, Directors and Faculty.  Serves as a liaison between Muma College of Business and other USF departments.  Provides assistance for adhoc and special events.  Special projects as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree and one year of research or research administration experience; or a Master's degree. Progressively responsible related experience involving grant development or administration may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
PREFERRED:
• Master's degree with two years of experience in a research administrator capacity.
• Strong preference given to candidate with USF TRAIN certification and eCRA certificate.
• Experience with Peoplesoft GEMS and Financial Systems.
• Proven track record identifying research funding sources and proposal preparation with successful funding results.
