Full Job Description Our Transportation Specialists work directly with our Carrier Sales Team to facilitate the dispatch process and track and monitor customer freight from dispatch to delivered. The Transportation Specialists work to ensure our customers’ expectations are met by our carrier partners. The primary goal of a transportation specialist is to ensure the smooth transition of freight by monitoring location, movement and preforming status updates and check calls with drivers in our Transportation Management System. You will offer exposure to many functions and job positions within ReedTMS and is a great first step for a long-term career in the fast-paced logistics industry.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Learn and understand the entire dispatch process and the various statuses associated with each part of the process
• Utilize our Transportation Management System (McLeod) to provide information regarding freight status
• Engage your drivers and carrier partners to communicate rate confirmations and information regarding movement, pick-up and delivery
• Understand your team and provide proactive support to all groups and provide excellent customer service as needed
• Set night crew up for success by following up on and preparing assignments for afterhours associates
• Other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE:
Six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
EDUCATION:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
• Intermediate mathematical abilities. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Contract management systems, word processing, spreadsheets.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports, letters and documents.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
