Serves to provide victims of crime with emotional support, guidance, and information relating to victim's rights and available services, pursuant to state statutes and in accordance with Agency policy. Work is performed in accordance with standard departmental procedures and under general supervision, and involves some exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Essential Functions

Reviews offense/incident reports to familiarize themselves with all the pertinent facts of the case so as to provide the appropriate assistance.
Provide victims and witness with referrals to appropriate agencies in order to assist their needs.
Educate victims and witness on the Criminal Justice process and provide them with assistance reference to their case.
Accurately and chronologically document activities and relevant information in the victim's file pursuant to the requirements of the Office of the Attorney General
Conduct effective and thorough follow-up interviews/activities as needed on a case by case basis to ensure that the victim has received the appropriate assistance
Accurately update the case log to reflect all required information and statistics pursuant to state statute
Have knowledge of supporting agencies in the community
Train new employees; attend conferences, conventions, or other activities to setup, display and promote the Victims Advocate Program
Must be able to attend training outside local area
Assists sworn officers with various duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years" experience in social services or criminal justice field. A two-year degree may substitute for experience. A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, or Criminal Justice is preferred. Possess an acceptable Florida Driver"s License. Must possess or obtain within six (6) months of employment FCIC/NCIC certification. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KSA's - Ability to remain calm and react quickly in emergencies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
Knowledge of office practices and procedures
Ability to operate a computer, printer, fax machine, and copier.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routines.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Skill in the use of data input equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
Ability to think logically to prepare requests and retrieve information from the system.
Ability to instruct others in data entry.
Ability to understand and follow moderately complex instructions.
Ability to learn new methods, procedures, and statistical reports.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, the general public, and other agencies. Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including automobile, office equipment, radio, telephone etc. Must be able to exert up to thirty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work, must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk, run.
