ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The College of Public Health research faculty participates in the development of data-driven infectious disease models research in accordance with the needs of their funded research programs that result in significant articles published in highly ranked, peer reviewed research journals.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Application Developer III is responsible for designing, building, maintaining, modifying and supporting custom computer applications for the USF research community. This position will develop applications that enhance existing applications using advanced technologies. In addition, this position will research problems and recommend current solutions to resolve these problems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for full life-cycle (Specifications, Design, Development, Testing, Implementation and Support) software development of College of Public Health applications.
• Serve as technical expert on complex applications development work assignments and problems. Design and plan for software solutions appropriate to those needs through discussions with research faculty and with the help of those with expertise in the areas involved.
• Maintain and enhance current applications. Use productivity tools to develop and modify applications software. Correct erroneous data that may cause and application to fail or not operate as expected. Fix application bugs. Expand and improve testing procedures. Check and revise documentations.
• Analyze user system and application needs, determine and evaluate potential solutions, develop system specification and requirements, and design application programs to meet the requirements. Provide senior level support for applications when escalated. Respond to customer calls when encountering problems with custom programs and applications.
• Research, analyze and evaluate current technical trends, emerging technologies and standards, new software functionality, and alternative software solutions to determine applicability and viability in the College of Public Health.
• Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or other field involving software and analytical training, and four years of IT related work experience, OR a Bachelor's degree with no specific required field and five years of IT related work experience, OR a Master's degree and three years of IT related work experience, OR a combination of eight years of IT related work experience and validated training.
• Preparation for a relevant IT certification is considered to be related training.
PREFERRED:
• Experience with Git, Django, VueJS and Bootstrap Vue, experience with Azure/similar cloud services with knowledge of Docker and container registries, Kubernetes, working knowledge of Python/Linux and production deployment w/ Docker, cloud-based job scheduling and compute management, such as Azure batch, log analytics and storage accounting, and experience with creation and consumption of rest APIs.
