Description:
As a key member of the Enterprise Data Management organization, you will be responsible for the reference data platforms (Semaphore & Mark logic) by advancing and promoting the use of reference data, partnering with the business Subject Mater Experts on creation of vocabularies / taxonomies and ontologies, and developing analytic solutions using semantic technologies.
You will interact with Amgen’s Data Management leaders worldwide through the Data Governance forums, where data anomalies and remediation plans are discussed and tracked.
Responsibilities
• Lead the reference data technical product team
• Work with Reference Data Product Owner, external resources and other junior engineers as part of the product team
• Deliver towards the roadmap for semantic technologies to advance the reference data platform
• Work with Business and Client IS to model and develop vocabularies, taxonomies and ontologies
• Develop taxonomy and ontology data models and standards
• Develop and maintain semantically appropriate concepts
• Identify and address conceptual gaps in both content and taxonomy
• Enrich taxonomy through corpus analysis, entity extraction and other methods
• Maintain ontology source vocabularies for new or edited codes
• Develop systems to support supervised and/or unsupervised knowledge discovery and classification
• Provide expertise for defining solution architecture involving sources, MDM, Metadata Management, Semaphore, other inhouse mid-tier systems and down-stream applications
• Support product teams to help them leverage taxonomic solutions
• Own business requirements related to taxonomy and ontology tools
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree
OR
Master’s degree and 3 years of Information Systems experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of Information Systems experience
OR
Associate degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Clinical and pharmaceutical experience
• Demonstrated professional knowledge of controlled vocabularies, classification, ontology and taxonomy
• Solid logical and conceptual reasoning experience
• Proficiency in data analysis
• Experience in ontology development or content classification
• Knowledge of RDF/OWL ontology language
• Proficiency in semantic modeling and ontology engineering
• Informatics background
• Experience with Ontology Management tool (e.g., Semaphore, Mark Logic) preferred
• Proficient in one of the coding languages (Python, Java, Scala)
• Hands on experience writing SQL using any RDBMS (Redshift, Postgres, MySQL, Teradata, Oracle, etc.).
• Experience with Schema Design & Dimensional data modeling.
• Experience with AWS Services like EC2, S3, Redshift/Spectrum, Glue, Athena, RDS, Lambda, and API gateway.
• Experience with software DevOps CI/CD tools, such Git, Jenkins, Linux, and Shell Script
• Experience with Spark, Hive, Kafka, Kinesis, Spark Streaming, and Airflow.
• Hands on experience using Databricks/Jupyter or similar notebook environment
• Experience leading junior engineers, and working in an agile environment (i.e. user stories, iterative development, etc.)​
• Experience working with test-driven development and software test automation​
• Experience working in Product teams environment
