POSITION SUMMARY:
The Applications Developer III/II supports the Rightpath Research & Innovation Center. This position identifies, builds, and maintains the electronic tools necessary to conduct federal grant-based research studies. Current studies include the development of language-literacy and STEM assessments for children between 3-6 years of age; an experimental evaluation of the effectiveness of professional development techniques for teaching children with autism; and two experimental evaluations of different methods to teach English words to dual-language learners in 3rd grade.
Rightpath is a relatively small research group consisting of five faculty members so duties are based on the needs of the current research projects at any given time. Designing complex survey instruments using REDCap software (similar to Qualtrics or Survey Monkey) and programming detailed experimental manipulations using Millisecond Inquisit (a third-party software for conducting experiments) are common tasks, but each project requires working with the researchers to identify the best solution for the problem at hand. This has ranged from using Perl and Python to automate complex tasks and process data; to writing a Java-based Windows application to manage participant IDs; to using batch file processing to join multiple experimental tasks in Inquisit; and designing a Wordpress website to disseminate information about two of our projects. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with different researchers to identify and solve real-world problems in educational research settings.
