Work Hours/Shift:
Full Time Weekend Shift.  Three 12-hour shifts.  Saturday, Sunday and variable third day.
You Will Be Responsible For:

• Human Resource Management – Monitors performance of the staff and takes corrective action for improvement as appropriate. Uses independent judgment to:
• Selects applicant for interview and hire and assures appropriate orientation.
• Suspend or invoke other discipline for work infractions, performance deficiencies and conduct violations by exercising supervisory authority.
• Evaluates supervised employees, recommends promotion of supervised employees, and recommends bonuses and awarding of other discretionary rewards to supervised employees.
• In collaboration with the Human Resources Department, terminates supervised employees, where appropriate.
• The assignment of employees to particular duties or activities or to authorize and assign overtime to employees where appropriate.
• The adjustment/resolution of complaints, concerns, and problems of supervised employees regarding work assignments, hours of work overtime scheduling, and other work-related matters.
• Assures diversity of staff is positively fostered in the work environment. Actively involves all groups in shared decision-making where appropriate.
• Uses skill in effective conflict management and is able to reach a common goal and resolve conflicts
• Creates a work environment that addresses the physical and emotional needs of the staff and one that is conducive to retention of the staff.
• Financial Management – Understands health care economics, public policy, and finance as it pertains to the delivery of patient care.
• Understands the broad impact of reimbursement on the delivery of patient care services, including but not limited to Medicare, Managed care, Medicaid, third party providers, challenges to current health care policies, and key legislative initiatives at the local, state, and national level.
• Develops, analyzes, and interprets unit-department based budgeting. Maintains staffing and scheduling, and resource utilization within budgeted targets for the unit.

• Is involved in capital budgeting; may be required to produce a cost benefit analysis to justify requested equipment.
• Utilizes information systems to support business decisions.
• Performance Improvement – Demonstrates familiarity with the performance improvement model of the organization.
• Champions performance improvement activities on the unit through problem identification, assessment, data gathering, change implementation, and evaluation of outcomes.
• Is actively involved in all aspects of patient safety on the unit including but not limited to: sentinel event monitoring and reporting, root cause analysis, DNV (regulatory agency) requirements, incident reporting, medication safety policies and procedures.
• Assures workplace safety for the employees and demonstrates knowledge of regulatory requirements for workplace safety, i.e., CMS, OSHA, DNV, etc.
• Supports continual process improvement by sponsoring and/or participating in the activities.
• Ensures that practice changes, as a result of performance improvement activities, are implemented.
• Sets quality standards and initiatives for the department through collaboration with leadership and implementation of evidence based practice where appropriate.

• Educational Responsibilities-
• Plans and monitors staff yearly educational requirements as well as licensure and certification requirements.
• Plans, directs, and participates in staffing in-services, huddles, and meetings to meet educational requirements for licensure, certification, and unit competencies.
• Actively monitors staff compliance with Town Halls, quality audits.
• Works with Director/ Nurse Manager of Surgical Services to develop new and update current policies based on changing Standards of Practice and AORN guidelines.
• Develops, updates, assigns, and monitors new employee orientation for the unit including preceptor development, competency requirements, and 30,60,90 day evaluations.
• Develops and coordinates Cerner/Surginet training for new hires.
• Coordinates and delegates special projects to unit Team Leader and Coordinators as needed.
What You Will Need:
• Minimum two year’s acute care nursing practice experience required
• Associates degree in Nursing required
• Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) OR Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) at time of hire/promotion highly preferred.
• Valid Florida RN license required upon hire
• BLS certification required upon hire
• 2 hours Stroke education within 6 months of hire, then 1 hour annually
• CNOR certification preferred
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director/ Nurse Manager Surgical Services, the OR Nurse Supervisor is a clinical position with responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the surgery department. The OR Supervisor adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, federal agencies and accrediting bodies. All duties are performed in accordance with established departmental and Hospital policies and procedures. This position actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all, while implementing the principles of Florida Hospital.
