The Operational Risk Sr Officer II is a strategic professional who closely follows latest trends in own field and adapts them for application within own job and the business. Recognized subject matter expert within one area. Strong commercial awareness is a necessity. Is an acknowledged authority both within and outside area of expertise. Typically a small number of people within the business that provide the same level of expertise. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Some external communication is typically required. Provides advanced judgment and conducts in-depth quantitative or qualitative analysis to solve problems and develop new, innovative solutions. Required to think beyond existing solutions, assumptions or current knowledge of sophisticated areas. Significant impact on a function and/or the business through making decisions that determine technical approaches and strategies for the area.
Responsibilities:
• Establishes and oversees the application of reputation risk policies, procedures, technology and tools, and governance processes to create lasting solutions for minimizing the impact on Citi's reputation including brand, share price and internal and external stakeholders resulting from commercial decisions.
• independently assesses risks and drive actions to address the root causes that lead to a negative reputation risk impact by challenging both historical and proposed practices.
• Governance and oversight includes liaising with operational risk category subject matter experts and with first line framework and business staff.
• Demonstrates technical expertise, understanding of products, tools and associated risks.
• Researches an issue/deal and identifies which elements of Risk or other functions that may be impacted, in the immediate sense and beyond. Identifies trends and identifies the root causes of issues.
• Assesses the implications to other Risk disciplines when providing oversight on transactions, the overall assessment of risk appetite, or in other business situations. Engages and partners with key contacts globally to ensure successful implementation. Identifies potential mitigants of risk in particular situations or transactions.
• Analyzes risk in terms of potential financial impact and suggests alternatives to improve Citi's position/approach.
• Recognizes and scopes franchise risk and matters of fraud that may impact reputation risk.
• Leads execution of key projects to enhance the reputation risk framework; for instance, metrics enhancement and building a risk identification process..
• Communicates and incorporates “lessons learned” from transactions and results and works with the Operational Risk Framework team to conduct and communicate lessons learned.
• Ability to negotiate (internally and externally); responds to tactics and keeps business on track to finalize agreements in negotiation.
• Anticipates client needs (internal and external) and proactively generates ideas to deliver innovative solutions and improve Citi’s competitiveness. Ensures that escalated client issues are resolved with urgency.
• Builds partnerships across functions/regions; collaborates with others to identify problems, provide solutions, and reach agreements. Creates and sustains a network of strong relationships. Influences decisions that have impact on company performance.
• In a managerial role, effectively manages and develops others; provides candid and honest feedback on an on-going basis. Works with senior management in businesses, regions and functions to ensure the effective implementation of the operational risk framework.
• Builds awareness around regulatory matters and/or highlighting potential regulatory issues.
• Links and measures impact of compliance and regulatory changes to processes.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
• 15+ years relevant experience
• Demonstrates project management skills and the ability to manage several large programs simultaneously.
• Leadership in customer service, corporate relationship management or similar background a plus
• Experience in working with or building a risk framework is a plus; understands how key indicators are identified, collected and reported, and helps define acceptable deviations for levels/trends.
• Exceptional influencing and communications skills as this role will interact with multiple senior stakeholders globally - business heads in each region as well as segment heads - plus senior managers in the Risk organization.
Education:
• Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
