Job Description:
The Maintenance Mechanic – Utilities/Facilities position is responsible for the overall maintenance of the plant support general plant utilities maintenance including, but not limited to, water, electrical, air, and both the interior and exterior of the building.

Perform complex tasks using multiple types of tools, both hand and pneumatic/electrical tools. Troubleshoot basic electrical systems involving both AC and DC power; maintain and improve control systems; and perform PMs and work orders. Must have a good understanding of Allen Bradley PLC Controllers. Must have a good understanding of gearboxes, sprockets, chains, “v” –belts. Must be able to weld and use ability to use a cutting torch. Must be able to solder copper pipe. Must learn how to operate and maintain all utility equipment. (Boiler system, Chiller system, HVAC units, Air Compressors, Generators, Fire Sprinkler systems and fire suppression systems.) Must have a good understanding of plumbing, including how to thread pipe, plumb and repair sinks and toilets.  Must understand safety procedures for refrigerated equipment. Must be able to use predictive tools to do thorough PM’s on the utility equipment. (IR Camera, Airborne Ultrasonic, Vibration and Alignment.) Verify needed parts, schedule work, and log activities related to same.  Validate effectiveness of work performed. May be required to assist with preventive and predictive maintenance on plant equipment. Gain practical knowledge and understanding of continuous improvement tools and actively work with operations to apply knowledge as appropriate. Must operate the maintenance computer system for time entry and work-order generation. Must utilize tools appropriately to rebuild parts when necessary. Must be willing to further mechanical and electrical training via additional education.  Complete all required paperwork efficiently and accurately. Understand, observe and comply with the handling/usage of color-coded container policy. Maintain clean, sanitary work environment and prepare work area for following shift personnel. Immediately notify supervisor of any repairs or adjustments required. Possess thorough understanding of all company policies, including GMPs and safety policies. Communicate effectively with other departments, managers, and other employees. Works closely with all levels of the organization including Maintenance, Engineering, Warehouse, and Production Supervisors.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, kneeling, twisting, holding, gripping, reaching, pulling, stooping, extensive bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, extensive wrist movements, and climbing all day. Work can be performed in extreme heat and cold environments. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items weighing 50 pounds above shoulder level.   A team lift would be required for anything over 50 pounds and/or the ability to operate the hoist for heavier items. The employee must be able to read, write, and comprehend the English language and possess strong communication skills both oral and written. The employee must work safely at all times and follow all OSHA (safety) guidelines.
Food Quality, Safety and Security: The employee initiates action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to food safety and the quality of the product, processes, quality or safety system.  The employee stops production, if necessary, to correct food safety issues, quality issues, or safety problems.  The employee identifies and records any problems relating to food safety, quality of the product, processes, quality system or safety system.  The employee controls further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of food safety or quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.  The employee informs line supervisor, production manager, QA manager, or other management personnel of any food safety or quality issues or of any processes which become noncompliant with specified requirements.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, heat, cold, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full­-time position.  Normal days are Monday through Friday.  Shifts are as follows:  1st- 6:45am-2:45 pm.  This employee must be able to work overtime when required.
Travel: No travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience:
• Must have five years’ experience in electrical troubleshooting.
• Must have a proficient understanding of Allen Bradley PLC controllers.
• Must have a good understanding of motor starters, relays, photo-eyes, limit switches, gearboxes, sprockets, chains, “v”-belts and welding/cutting.
• Must possess a strong mechanical aptitude.
• Strong organizational skills.
Preferred Education and Experience:
• Two+ years of manufacturing experience.
• Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical parts.
