Full Job Description Valley School is an alternative school serving the K-12 student population, who are residents/patients of River Valley Behavioral Health Hospital (RVBH-H). Valley School is operated and staffed by Daviess County Public Schools.

Commensurate with salary range on the DCPS certified salary schedule

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
? Hold a valid Kentucky Teaching Certification in a special education field.
? Have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience.
? Have strong presentation and communication skills.
? Worked on a successful team.
Preferred:
? Hold a valid Kentucky Administrative Certificate.
? Teacher or building leadership experience.
Knowledge Of:
? Social/Emotional needs of students
? “At risk” students
? Mental health challenges
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
Valley School is operated by River Valley Behavioral Health and serves both short and long term patients with mental health issues requiring full time or partial hospitalization in grades K - 12. Education of students enrolled in Valley School is the responsibility of DCPS.
This position involves providing instructional support for teachers and working collaboratively with DCPS staff, River Valley Behavioral Health staff, child protective services and KECSAC representatives to meet the needs of individual students assigned to Valley School.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with multiple state, federal and private agencies.
? Understand and have a passion for at-risk students.
? Understand that psychiatric treatment supersedes education.
? Take on many roles for the day-to-day operation (attendance clerk, registrar, school and student scheduling, school budgets, purchase supplies) of the school.
? Be willing to work closely with River Valley Hospital Administration and staff by discussing all decisions before implementation.
? Closely monitor students’ use of technology.
? Attend required state meetings.
? Be willing to persevere through times when students are not being successful to find what will work.
? Evaluate and coach teachers and staff.
? Support River Valley Behavioral Health in all audits/monitoring visits.
? Complete Title I, Part D application process/development of CSIP.
? Support teachers instructionally in the role of instructional coach.
? Assume Building Assessment Coordinator duties.
? Attend all district administrator meetings.
? Attend to all transportation needs/scheduling.
? Chair all ARC meetings.
? Staff and oversee summer school.

Work Environment:
( ex. Indoor, environmentally controlled. Typical office environment including but not limited to telephones, personal interruptions, background noises. May require working with or near the public, parents, and children and will be subject to sounds, scents, and other related environmental factors. This position will require dealing with conflict and requires use of sound judgement.)

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel. The evaluation will be conducted by a district administrator.
