The City of Orlando's AmeriCorps Programs (OPS & OPASS) serve over 2,500 students and their families annually in our year round programs. All programs are school based and tailored to supplement and enhance the existing efforts of each specific school site. OPASS & OPS's programming centers around the core components of academics, enrichment, athletics and service learning. The organization utilizes an innovative and diversified year round curriculum to engage youth so that they may develop the life-skills, maturity and confidence necessary to become responsible and productive citizens at home, school and in their community. Through generous support from the City of Orlando, Mayor Buddy Dyer and the City Council, Orlando After-School All-Stars and Orange County Public Schools, AmeriCorps Orlando continues to flourish by providing unique and comprehensive support to the City of Orlando's youth.
NATURE OF WORK:
Providing in-school and after-school tutoring, mentoring, and support services in Orlando area public schools and community centers. Focusing on math and reading subject areas, providing individualized and small group tutoring for academic growth and college and career readiness. Members also provide personal enrichment activities in the before- and after-school programs; activities which include coaching and mentoring.
Minimum Requirements
High school graduate with some post-secondary education. College coursework in education, language arts, and/or mathematics helpful. Between 30 and 60 semester hours of college preferred. Some experience with children preferred. Bilingual (English-Spanish) helpful. Florida driver's license required.
VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
Supplemental Information
Program Information:
• Serves August 2021 through July 2022 and completes 1700 hours (35-40 hours per week)
• Program consists of tutoring and mentoring a group of students throughout your service.
• Pay is a stipend of about $560 bi-weekly
• Educational Award of $6,495 once your hours are completed
• Benefits include healthcare, childcare assistance, and loan deferment
