This position requires a valid Class B driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Drivers Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:
• three (3) or more moving violations in the past 3 years that accumulate 3 or more points per violation;
• any 2 convictions of reckless driving in the past 3 years;
• a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past 3 years; and
• a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past 4 years

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs skilled work installing, maintaining, altering, and repairing wiring, power appliances, light machinery, and electrical circuits on equipment buildings, highway lighting, and electrical safety devices. Operates various equipment in support of this activity, such as: bucket truck, pickup truck.
Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits. Locates and marks existing underground utilities for construction, excavation, and maintenance activities.
Performs electrical work on deep well water pumps, sump pumps, motor generator sets, air compressors, and other electrical devices.
Maintains air conditioning and refrigeration equipment through routine preventative maintenance such as changing filters, oil, grease, checking electrical components, pumps, belts and thermostats.
Selects materials, supplies, and equipment necessary for required work and prepares requisitions and price quotes for purchases according to purchasing guidelines. Purchases parts and supplies as a purchasing card holder and is accountable for proper processing of invoices and completion of required paperwork and work orders.
Performs emergency electrical repairs for highway lighting, buildings, lift stations, and generators, as needed.
Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODES. KNOWLEDGE OF PRINCIPLES AND TECHNIQUES OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS. KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT UTILIZED IN ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS. KNOWLEDGE OF SAFETY PROCEDURES RELATED TO ELECTRIC WORK. SKILL IN INSTALLING ALTERING, REPAIRING AND MAINTAINING ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS EQUIPMENT TO MINIMIZE DOWN TIME. SKILL IN THE USE OF ELECTRICAL TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT ASSOCIATED WITH ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS. ABILITY TO INTERPRET AND APPLY THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC DESIGN STANDARDS. ABILITY TO TAKE ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS. ABILITY TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS. ABILITY TO LIFT 50 LBS, CLIMB, SQUAT, STOOP, PUSH, PULL, CRAWL AND BEND. ABILITY TO FUNCTION SAFELY AND USE APPROPRIATE SAFETY EQUIPMENT. ABILITY TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY. SKILLED IN THE USE OF BASIC MATH. SKILLED IN DOCUMENTING WORK PERFORMED AND MATERIALS USED ON WORK ORDERS. ABILITY TO FOLLOW ORAL AND WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS. ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY VERBALLY AND IN WRITING.
OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies.  While on-duty status, the position’s incumbent must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of commercial driver's license (CDL). The incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions. The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates. Must obtain and maintain certification in Maintenance of Traffic - Intermediate Level. Possess a valid Class "B" CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with air brakes is required at time of hire.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possess a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency and one year experience as an electrician or graduate from an accredited program. An additional year of experience as an electrician is a substitute for a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.  Possess a valid Class "B" CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with air brakes is required at time of hire.

A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $769.60 will be added to the annual salary.
