Zoo Aide/Attendant (Busch Animal Outpost)

What you get to do:
As a Zoo Aide/Attendant, you will provide skilled, knowledgeable support for our year-round park operational needs. You will also:
• Work with a diverse animal population including Class 1 animals
• Able to operate landscape equipment including mowers, weed eaters, pruning tools, and various other devices
• Daily record keeping- electronically and written
• Provide physical stimulation and mental challenges for our animal population
• Interact with guest by greeting them and providing excellent service in an efficient and courteous manner
• Work in a team environment and interact with others in a professional manner
• Perform other duties as assigned
What it takes to succeed:
• At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience working with animals preferred
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet Busch Gardens driving guidelines
• Basic math skills
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals, procedural manuals, written materials pertaining to husbandry and animal management
• Excellent observational skills with the ability to work in a changing environment
• Robust written and verbal communication skills to include public speaking and efficient team communication
• Swimming and snorkeling skills
• 2 years' experience in a zoological setting preferred
• Strong Animal Husbandry and Operant Conditioning skills are preferred
What else is important:
• Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
• Position engages in extensive walking and standing throughout entire work shift and climb/ascend heights, if needed
• Perform the following physical activities: kneeling, squatting, bend floor-to waist/waist-to-overhead, reach overhead, simple grasp and fine hand manipulation tasks (use of tools/keyboard/writing)
• Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, in varying weather, to include extreme heat. Position may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors, and cold/heat temperature extremes Perform cleaning duties, including use of cleaning chemicals
• Work a flexible schedule/hour based on business need, to include opening, mid-, and closing shifts; nights, weekends, and holidays
• Must be flexible in work locations as placement will depend on business needs and career development opportunities
