What you get to do:
As a Zoo Aide/Attendant, you will provide skilled, knowledgeable support for our year-round park operational needs. You will:
• Care and maintenance of hippo pools at the Edge of Africa realm including scrubbing, vacuuming, and pressure-washing
• Able to operate landscape equipment including mowers, weed-eaters, pruning tools, and various other devices
• The ability to give dynamic public presentations to our park guests
• Daily record keeping- electronically and written
• Provide physical stimulation and mental challenges for our animal population
• Interact with guest by greeting them and providing excellent service in an efficient and courteous manner
• Work in a team environment and interact with others in a professional manner
• Perform other duties as assigned
What it takes to succeed:
• Must be at least 18 years of age with a diverse collection experience in a zoological setting
• College degree in Zoology, Biology, ore related field preferred
• SCUBA certification required
• Must be able to pass a dive physical
• Must be able to pass the water rescue class
• Team minded individual with a positive attitude
• Must have valid Driver’s License and be able to meet SEA driving guidelines
• Excellent observational and animal husbandry skills with the ability to recognize sick or injured animals
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Communicate professionally and effectively with ambassadors and guests
• Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis
• Position engages in extensive walking and standing throughout entire work shift and climb/ascend heights
• Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, in varying Florida weather, to include extreme heat. Position may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors and cold/heat temperature extremes
• Perform the following physical activities: kneeling, squatting, bend floor-to waist/waist-to-overhead, reach overhead, simple grasp and fine hand manipulation tasks(use of tools/keyboard/writing)
• Perform all cleaning duties; including use of cleaning chemicals- PPE is required and provided
• Must be flexible in work locations as placement will depend on business needs and career development opportunities
• Work a flexible schedule/hours based on business need, to include opening, mid-, and closing shifts; nights, weekends, and holidays
