• Must be able to mix and spray paint with epoxy-based paints on galvanized steel and aluminum.
• Clean and Prepare Surfaces – painter must prepare the surface to paint. Remove previous finishes on the surface, removal by masking, grit blast, or chemical rinse. Clean and smooth the surface
• Prepare Paints – Prepare the paint before painting. Use proper measurements such as viscosity cups, thickness gauges and gloss gauges to check makeup of the paint. Understand the chemistry to mix the appropriate compounds for the project.
• Apply Paints – Use a variety of techniques and tools to paint surfaces. May use spray equipment, airbrushes, stencils, rollers, or brushes. Must understand the tools to choose the best tool for the project. Paint on primers, pre-finish, and finishing coats. Must us special safety equipment such as self-contained suits or protective eyewear.
• Clean Work Areas – Clean up the area after completion of a project. Carefully follow all guidelines for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and waste.
• Maintain Equipment – Responsible for the maintenance of the painting equipment. Must be able to troubleshoot any problems that the equipment may have.
Required Skills
• Must have experience mixing and spraying paint with epoxy-based paint on metal surfaces.
• Set-up equipment and use a measuring tape to read blueprints to specifications.
• May asked to assemble parts by bolting or riveting, assist with assembly for the various departments as needed and help with expandable and container work.
• List and verify operations.
• Adhere to all company polices.
• Observe all safety procedures and policies and use proper protective equipment (especially eye, ear protection and steel toe shoes/boots, gloves, etc.).
• Keep work area clean and organized.
• Report all injuries, near misses and accidents immediately to a supervisor.
• All other duties as assigned.
