Reports to the Plant Manager. Leads and Manages the operations of all productions areas to ensure that volume, cost, and quality standards are achieved. Plan and establish work schedules, staffing requirements and production activity to increase and maximize productivity and efficiency. Provides production process analysis and makes recommendations on process improvements and manufacturing solutions. Familiar with a variety of manufacturing concepts, practices and procedures.  Leads and manages production staff in the day to day performance of their jobs. Ensures that project, department milestones and goals are met adhering to approved budgets and maximizing profit. Oversee the employees in the production of industrial switchgear, high voltage and control panels for multiple shifts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Manage multiple shift workforce of approximately 100 union employees.
• Provide leadership, support, and guidance to employees and ensure the goals and objectives of the organization, while maintaining TAW’ ® high quality and standards.
• Delegates duties and examines products to ensure quality.
• Organize workflow to meet specifications and completion deadlines.
• Provide production time estimates to sales department.
• Communicate department needs to other department managers including purchasing, engineering, safety, HR, and Payroll.
• Establish throughput goals aligned with department requirements.
• Report manpower, capacity, WIP to plant manager.
• Manage the safety committee and implement safety improvements throughout the plant.
• Establish 5S, LEAN, Cellular Manufacturing and Theory of Constraint Process Improvement Initiatives throughout CE to increase productivity and efficiency while reducing costs.
• Anticipates factory constraints and develops workaround plans to meet through-put requirements.
• Will manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Maintain production department and adherence to ISO9001-2018 standards.
• Ensure quality and safety programs are adhered to.
• Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and oversees workflow.
• Ensure the timely shipment of product to customers.
• Works with Procurement Department to implement best inventory management and usage procedures to eliminate manufacturing waste.
• Creates and maintains relevant manufacturing metrics and reports.
• Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Review and preparing of quotes and official bids.
• Will work with Engineering, Sales, Quality and Management teams to ensure complete customer satisfaction.
• Ensures the production and work areas are neat and organized.
• Report all injuries, near misses and accidents immediately to the Plant Manager and Corporate SHE Manager.
• Maintain skills matrix for technicians.
• Directly supervises non-supervisory and supervisory employee(s); Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interview, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Perform employee evaluations and present evaluation to individual employees.
• Observe all safety procedures and policies and use proper protective equipment (especially eye, ear protection and steel toe shoes/boots, gloves, etc.).
• Keep work area clean and organized.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
• Bachelors’ degree and 5-10 years of supervisory experience in a heavy fabrication and/or mechanical/electrical assembly production environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prior experience working for a manufacture or re-seller of industrial switchgear, high voltage and a control panel desired. Experience can be within any production department including welding, fabrication, etc.
• Prior experience and knowledge of ISO and Lean Manufacturing standards.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and possess good organizational skills.
• Computer experience working on Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs.
• Must be able to abide by and ensure all personnel follow safety policies and procedures.
• Must be flexible and willing to work all shifts.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
