The Maintenance Manager will work at the Mizkan America, Inc. sauce (Ragu) plant in Owensboro, Kentucky. The plant is a high-speed processing and packaging facility which produces sauces for both the Ragú and Bertolli pasta sauce brands. This position will report to the Engineering Manager and Technical Innovation. This job description reflects assignment of essential functions. It does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
SUMMARY: : The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance department and reports to the Engineering Maintenance Manager. This is a hands-on management production environment position; candidate must be comfortable with managing and working in a fast pace, non-stop, food production environment in order to keep the equipment up and running, solve problems, determine root causes and implement effective countermeasures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the maintenance department in the plant to include the staff (supervisors and mechanics), in addition to plant equipment, machine tools, buildings, heating, air conditioning, electric, gas, water and air systems, sewer and waste disposal systems, fire sprinkler systems, parking lot facilities, and overall plant infrastructure.
Plan, layout and schedule work for functional areas of responsibility and delegate work on a project or individual basis to subordinate staff members.
Hire, train, monitor, discipline, evaluate and develop employees. Assist subordinates with diagnosing and remedying difficult problems. Enforce organizational policies and employee rules of conduct.
Monitor and regulate the operation of departmental areas and investigate solutions to complex problems affecting functional areas of responsibility.
Source outside vendors. Establish project scope and needs and request quotations. Supervise completion of project.
Develop and implement a comprehensive preventative and predictive equipment repair program.
Lead continuous maintenance activities related to break down analysis, root cause analysis, and 5S
Develop and monitor formal control programs to track and regulate repair costs and spare parts inventories.
Work with corporate engineering personnel to design, plan, schedule and complete capital improvement projects.
Prepare and maintain department reporting and record-keeping systems.
Maintain good housekeeping conditions and ensure employee conformance to safety and sanitation rules and regulations.
Develop, implement and ensure adherence to SOP’s.
Develop and maintain qualifications and training standards for all maintenance personnel.
Provide trend analysis on all equipment fault times.
Interface with regulatory and third party agencies including OSHA, EPA, FDA, RWRA
Participate in cross function teams to address waste, scrap and line efficiencies.
Develop and manage departmental budgets.
Responsible for Food Quality, Safety and Legality.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
3 – 5 years of related management experience within a food processing, bottling, liquid filling/blending and/or consumer goods manufacturing/packaging environment.
Associate degree or equivalent is preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree is a plus.
Strong mechanical ability and a working knowledge of electrical, mechanical and PLC systems are required. Demonstrated ability to apply and conduct good root cause analysis techniques and resolve problems is essential.
Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Internet, e-mail, and database systems is required (AS 400 is a plus).
Experience with PSM, ammonia, boilers, and retorts is preferred
Working knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Megamation computerized preventative maintenance programs experience are highly desirable.
Must have a strong floor presence and be able to interact effectively with people at all levels.

Preferred candidates will have bottling experience and food (vegetable handling) processing experience, strong working knowledge of packaging equipment. Experience delivering projects in factory production environments is required. Food plant experience is desired but not required.
