Full Job Description Wendell Foster, a non-profit disabilities service provider in Owensboro, Kentucky has an opening for a Residential Training Advocate in the Intermediate Care Facility.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Residential Training Advocate (RTA) promotes quality of each Individual’s life through program planning and implementation; ensuring quality of services; and implementing those self-help, activities of daily living (ADL), and socialization programs as outlined in each person’s Individualized Service Plan (ISP). Also, serves as on-the-job trainer to assigned new employees during their orientation period, socializing them to the work environment and serving as a role model in the successful performance of Residential Training Advocate duties, as well as retraining these DSP’s as needed.
CLIENT SUPPORT FUNCTION:
The Residential Training Advocate supports the mission of WF by understanding the interests, likes and dislikes, aspirations, and needs of the individuals he/she supports, offering opportunities for learning and new experiences, and developing creative ideas for implementing their goals and plans. Residential Training Advocate empowers individuals to realize their fullest potential through support, encouragement, and respect.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or G.E.D required.
• Associate’s Degree in a related field preferred.
• Completed or currently undergoing Person-Centered Thinking introductory and Coaches training is preferred.
• Minimum of 6 months experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of above requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to drive organization vehicles, including possession of valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
• Possess or be able to possess first aid and CPR certifications (training provided).
• Ability to work well with others and effectively communicate.
• Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to organize, plan and implement programs, services and activities.
• Basic computer word processing skills and ability to learn windows-based software.
• Ability to prioritize tasks to ensure safety and person-centered care.
• Ability to motivate and empower DSP staff while holding them accountable for standards of support and care of the individuals.
• Ability to handle stressful situations in calm, professional manner, using critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to keep team focused on the individual and needed supports.
