We've got all the scenery you could ask for! The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) is "hunting" for people to join our team! Yes, we’re "fishing" for applicants!
Working as a Conservation Officer Recruit, you will perform tasks such as:
• Patrol fields, forests, and waterways to observe activity and violations of law.
• Issue citations to violators and assist senior officers in apprehending violators and making arrests.
• Prepare cases and present in court.
You will be required to operate various types of equipment such as a firearm, boat, ATV, vehicle, radio and other essential items.
During your first year, you will be trained in our Fish and Wildlife Academy, which covers such topics as:
• Firearms
• Drug Identification
• Hazardous Devices
• ATV operation
• Krav Maga Self Defense
• Water survival
• Species identification
• Media relations and job related legal topics.
Upon completion of the Fish and Wildlife Academy, you will be placed with a field-training officer for 16 weeks of hands on training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 21 years of age. Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=48432 . Employees in this job title are subject to the provisions of KRS Chapter 15 and 503 KAR 1:140 relating to peace officer certification as administered by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council. The employee must successfully complete the DOCJT Educating Heroes program within one year of employment in this job classification ( https://www.docjt.ky.gov/educating-heroes ). Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Working Conditions
Conditions are consistent with other law enforcement officers. Incumbents working in this job title spend the majority of time working outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
