ADA Compliance Specialist
What Will You Do?
The ADA Compliance Specialist is responsible for conducting ADA compliance & accessibility audits as it relates to WCAG 2.0 and WCAG 2.1 Level A and Level AA. You will test and validate user interfaces against accessibility requirements and guidelines through a variety of methods including but not limited to; Automated audits, manual audits, testing for visual contrast, testing utilizing screen readers and working with 3rd party agencies as well as coordinating with test subjects that have visual impairments that will manually test and validate the accessibility of our consumer facing digital properties.
You will take the information discovered through audits and will enter IT development tickets so that our development team can prioritize this remediation work into their sprint planning process. The ADA Compliance Specialist will ensure Ashley is maintaining a record of our audits as well as a timeline illustrating our continuous improvement process as we strive towards accessibility compliance.
You will produce monthly detailed reports outlining what was discovered through audits conducted within that month and what was completed by development as part of our remediation process. The ADA Compliance Specialist will have the opportunity to collaborate with legal counsel and various IT teams across the organization to help implement accessibility guidelines and best practices.
What Do You Need?
• 1-3 years of professional experience in ADA compliance.
• 1-3 years of experience working with complex websites and applications preferably in an agile environment. Furniture or accessory experience a plus.
• Must have at least 1 years of experience in ecommerce or other similar transactional site.
• Proven experience developing and producing detailed reports
• Ability to conduct ADA audits
• Experience utilizing assistive technology suck as NVDA, JAWS, WindowEyes, ZoomText, VoicOver.
• Knowledge of HTML, ARIA, CSS, Javascript
• Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0 / WCAG2.1 Level A and Level AA) and ability to mentor others on ADA compliance.
• Willingness to be a hands-on accessibility expert, where you will advise, support, and contribute solutions to front-end design and development teams as we strive to improve the accessibility of our consumer facing digital properties.
• Passion to help the entire team focus on accessibility and ability to train and coach fron-end developers, software testers, and UX architects, content strategists, and visual designers on best practices and creative solutions to sometimes complicated implementations.
• Thoroughly understand software development methodology.
• Participates in design, code and test inspections throughout the life cycle to identify issues. Explains technical considerations at related meetings.
• Provide overview of techniques developers can use when building user interfaces that comply with accessibility guidelines.
• Is highly functional on large, matrixed project teams. Interfaces with cross-functional team members and communicates effectively at the appropriate technical level for each audience.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Information Technology, Interaction Design, Human Factors, Psychology, or work related experience.
