The Fleet Accountant is accountable for recording the cost of newly acquired assets, tracking existing assets, recording depreciation, and the disposition of assets. Additionally, the Accountant ensures all asset related responsibilities are in line with laws, regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

You must also have excellent attention to detail and follow-up; have the ability to effectively establish rapport and present information and have a tolerance for multiple demands and administrative recall of procedures. The Fleet Accountant must maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality to protect the organization's value and exercise appropriate judgment in answering questions and releasing information.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reconcile and monitor construction in progress accounts for newly acquired fixed assets.
• Ensure assets are tagged and all asset documentation is recorded. Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms to record fixed assets.
• Manage spreadsheets and record asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system.
• Track the compilation of project costs into fixed asset accounts.
• Investigate the potential obsolescence of fixed assets.
• Recommend to management whether fixed assets should be disposed of.
• Calculate asset retirement obligations for fixed assets.
• Conduct periodic impairment reviews for intangible assets.
• Conduct analyses related to fixed assets as requested by management.
• Track company expenditures for fixed assets in comparison to the capital budget and management authorizations.
• Review equipment cost reports weekly; research variances and resolve any issues.
• Assist with yearly asset inventory for each department.
• Independently compile and analyze financial information to prepare and enter journal entries for month-end closing.
• Prepare audit schedules relating to fixed assets and assist the auditors in their inquiries.
• Ensure accurate allocation of equipment for all departments.
• Oversee the fuel inventory, including fuel on-hand and equipment fuel usage and investigate discrepancies.
• Ensure equipment meters are recorded timely to allow for scheduled maintenance.
• Work with the Company's insurance agent for all equipment claims to ensure timely and cost-effective resolutions of claims. Ensure equipment schedules and accurate values are kept current and ensure documents are recorded with the insurance agent, as needed.
• Review the quarterly IFTA Taxes.
• Support the Controller's efforts for implementing and maintaining internal controls for fixed assets.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all departments.
• Assist with and meet all deadlines for the month-end close process.
• Contribute to the department and organization special projects.
• Attend all scheduled meetings.
• Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned by Management.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Education: Associate Degree in accounting, business, or similar combination of experience & education in the construction industry or other similar environment.
• Experience: 3+ years of experience in financial operations related to construction accounting.
• Skills: Proven ability to accurately record accounting transactions and to prepare management reports in a computerized environment. Skilled knowledge of computerized accounting systems and administrative software. Must have an analytical mind and be able to identify items requiring further analysis or correction when reviewing raw data - Ability to communicate effectively and positively with vendors, project managers, superintendents, management, and other employees. Must be detail oriented.

• Ability to perform assigned duties under frequent time pressures in an interruptive environment.
• Ability to maintain mental concentration for significant periods of time.
