The OR Scheduler is responsible for the scheduling of phone and faxed request in a prompt and courteous manner.  Manage difficult and interdepartmental scheduling with minimal delay to customer.  Correct utilization of the scheduling features of Meditech system and accurately enter all mandatory information.  Provides instructions to patients and physician’s staff on test preparation and registration information.  Establish and maintain a working knowledge and vocabulary of procedures scheduled.  Manage daily operations including but not limited to:  Meditech, Orders Management System, Call Center Equipment (phones, etc.), fax machines, printers.
The OR Scheduler is responsible for the following:
• Participates in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities, and seeks opportunities to improve department and inter-department processes.
• Serves as a resource to department staff, students, volunteers and other departments, and contributes to the teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care.
• Takes appropriate measures to ensure safety of staff and patients.
• Attendance and being on time, ready to work your scheduled hours is an essential job function.
• Phoned and/or faxed requests processed in a prompt and timely manner within 1-3 minutes;
• Difficult and interdepartmental scheduling with no longer than a 15 minute customer delay;
• Schedules patient tests, and/or procedures in a prompt, courteous manner;
• Correctly utilizes the scheduling features of the Meditech system and accurately enters necessary information;
• Instructs patients and physician staff on test preparation and registration information;

• Establishes and maintains a working knowledge and vocabulary of procedures scheduled;
• Demonstrates the willingness and ability to schedule for both diagnostics and the OR, and perform P&P functions as needs arise
• Communicates changes in schedule according to department guidelines;
• Assists with orientation of new employees as needed and serves as a  resource within the department;
• Displays confidence when scheduling difficult or interdepartmental requests;
• Recognized by customers as knowledgeable and helpful in scheduling procedures with no reports of problems
• 1 year in scheduling or an equivalent environmnet
• Ability to listen, interact and communicate verbally and in writing
• Computer and keyboarding skills required
