Full Job Description This position is responsible for completing blood draws for outpatient ambulatory HIV health services. The phlebotomist also provides treatment adherence and health education counseling, linkage to medical case management, behavioral health, and other Metro services and programs for HIV positive persons. The phlebotomist also conducts HIV 4th gen and HCV testing with the support system members of HIV positive patients. The phlebotomist also provides and conduct HIV counseling, testing, referral, and care coordination services for all population with emphasis on working with minority populations, MSM, Transgender, incarcerated individuals, and other populations at higher risk for HIV infection; assist individuals to identify their risk for HIV infection or transmission, how to change risky behaviors, and how to sustain positive risk reduction behavior changes; and conduct one-on-one testing sessions in a clinical and community setting.
Primary Tasks/Responsibilities :
• Completing blood draws for HIV positive persons and those at high risk for HIV
• Provide specialized HIV prevention education
• Provide referrals and coordination of services to clients.
• Conduct and report process and outcome evaluation activities.
• Conduct HIV and HCV rapid and venipuncture testing and pre/post test counseling.
• Linkage and coordination of services for HIV and/or HCV positive individuals
• Collect data, conduct data entry and prepare monthly program statistics and reports.
• Work collaboratively with medical providers, other community partners, members of client’s treatment team, and other agency personnel to coordinate service delivery and linkage.
• Refer and link clients to supportive services including assisting clients with completing Medicaid applications, food and transportation referrals, case management, insurance assistance, and more.
• Accurate and complete documentation of client activity through assessments and other forms.
• Willingness to cross train and support health center’s Medical Assistants to conduct blood draws for outpatient ambulatory HIV and primary medical care patients.
Education/Professional:
• Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant certification or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of one year work experience within a clinical or community-based setting.
• Experience working with HIV positive individuals, substance abuse populations, and social, ethnic economically diverse and other high risk populations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
• Must be able to speak, read, and write proficiently in English.
• Knowledge of HIV/AIDS.
• Awareness and sensitivity to cultural differences, varying sexual orientations, and psychosocial issues concerning the AIDS pandemic.
• Must be able to understand and use Microsoft Office Suite and basic EMR.
• Ability to recognize and adhere to professional boundaries and standards.
• Ability to determine priorities and multi-task.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
Requirements :
• Must possess and maintain valid Florida driver’s license and proof of insurance
• Must have reliable and accessible auto vehicle.
• Must pass necessary fingerprinting, Level II background checks and employment eligibility verification through the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s E-Verify system, https://e-verify.uscis.gov/emp.
