Surgical Authorization Coordinator
Orthopaedic Medical Group of Tampa Bay is a fast-paced orthopaedic practice with 7 locations. We are looking for a full-time Surgical Authorization Coordinator with orthopaedic clinical and administrative to join our team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge : Must have knowledge of the mission, vision, values, and commitments of the Orthopaedic Medical Group of Tampa Bay. Knowledge of the following is required: Principles of customer service, clerical procedures, obtaining referrals, medical ethics, medical record administration, appointment booking, guidelines for release of medical information, and applicable information systems.
Education : Successful completion of the approved Medical Assistant or Medical Admin Program is desired.
Experience in the clerical field required.
Training : Completion of American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Course is mandatory. Working knowledge of introductory word processing and database operations is preferred. Completed checklist for all administrative and EMR processes.
JOB SUMMARY:
• Directly involved with Orthopaedic surgeon to ensure successful scheduling and coordination of care for patients requiring surgical intervention.
• Works with the patient’s insurance and surgical facilities to obtain all necessary documents and authorization.
• Keeps up to date surgical schedule and ensures provider has all required documents prepared for day of surgery.
• Provides excellent customer service and makes follow up calls to patient. Aligns all aspects of job with organization mission. programs.
• Participates with other team members in assessing, improving and providing customer service to patients.
• Helps manage communication between patient and provider and insurance and ancillary departments.
• Greets patients and books follow up appointments. Enters referrals, medications and provides patients with a copy per provider’s direction as needed.
• Gives patient directions on what return paperwork and or ancillary results are needed prior to follow-up appointment.
• Reviews all patient demographics to make sure it matches the EMR system.
• Ensures all workers comp paperwork is completed and copies given to patient and insurance company.
• Enters data into the EMR system as necessary, ensures completion of patients’ record on a daily basis.
• Must ensure proper management, security and confidentiality of all medical records.
• Will be personally accountable to ensure correct data is entered into the electronic record system and completion of daily duties.
• Assist supervisor with any additional tasks that may need to be completed.
• Provides excellent customer service.
• Travel to other offices may be required.
Bilingual English/Spanish desired. Knowledge of Orthopaedics desired. Surgical scheduling experience desired. Excellent customer service and communication skills a must.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional clinical environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, tablets, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Ability to work a flexible schedule.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime may be required and/or hours may be shortened as business needs dictate.
