The successful Industrial Hygienist will primarily perform field surveys and report generation for indoor air quality assessments, mold, moisture intrusion investigation, asbestos and lead-based paint. Evaluations performed by the group include work throughout the US, Canada and the Caribbean. Disaster response is also a part of the job, primarily mold and water intrusion assessments.
Responsibilities:
• Provide IH support in various topical areas
• Provide field surveys and investigations, air monitoring and sampling, and maintain a strong field presence in project activities.
• Prepare written industrial hygiene and safety proposals, reports, correspondence and communication.
• Provide field and reporting support to the company in asbestos, mold, indoor air quality and lead-based paint management.
• Provide moisture mapping and water intrusion assessments, including for disaster response.
• Develop and implement effective and efficient methods for controlling and eliminating occupational health hazards.
• Perform IH worker exposure monitoring for clients and contractors.
• Evaluate laboratory and field data to render conclusions and recommendations, as applicable.
• Perform scientific field investigations for asbestos, mold, indoor air quality, moisture intrusion, lead-based paint and other potential occupational health hazards.
• Review and interpret national, federal, and local regulatory standards, manuals, reports and other formal written communications and develop institutional and/or local requirements and guidance.
• Evaluate contractor work activities, in regards to occupant and worker health, regulatory guidelines and public safety.
• Review plans, designs and specifications for operations and facilities to identify proper hazard controls.
• Provide recommended engineering controls to project personnel.
• Work independently to develop, maintain, implement and supervise IH programs and services.
• Write technical reports based on the interpretation of complex data, observations, and current regulations.
• Provide leadership to less experienced IH professionals and technicians.
Qualifications:
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
• AHERA Building Inspector and Contractor Supervisor certifications and experience performing asbestos surveys and abatement air monitoring.
• NIOSH 582 certified PCM microscopist
• Proficient with MS Office suite and experience writing technical reports and proposals.
Other Desirable Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in safety and health, or applied science relevant to Industrial Hygiene or Safety.
• CIEC certification or similar is preferred.
• Florida MRSA license and/or experience conducting moisture and mold investigations preferred.
• EPA Lead Inspector or Risk Assessor preferred.
Working Conditions:
• Field surveys and report generation for asbestos, mold, moisture intrusion and lead-based paint.
• Most work will be limited to the southern US, but additional travel is likely periodically.
• Travel is generally short-term (2-5 days). Longer trips may be requested.
• Must be able to climb a ladder, and lift weight up to 30 pounds.
• Periodic work in hot/humid environments
• Must be willing to work in disaster environments (hurricane response)
