SERVICE
Ensures high level of customer service provided to all hospital employees and patients.
Ensures customer service satisfaction by meeting legitimate expectations of customers within the availability of resources and in timely fashion.
Participates and collaborate with Hospital Administration and fellow Leadership to continuously raise the level of service provided by staff to all of the hospitals customers.
Participates in and/or organize laboratory and hospital initiatives at multiple regional labs.
Oversight of the Blood Bank contract and operations ensuring the organizational needs are met or exceeded.
Oversight of the Pathologist / Medical Director Agreements and ensure it meet or exceed the needs of the organization.
Ensures all Laboratory license and accreditation remains current and active for non-waived testing (FHT and FHLTAC).
Medical Director for the CLIA Certificate of Waivers for FHT and FHLTAC.
Acts as a liaison with AHS regarding AHS initiatives and programs.
Assesses statistical data and reports. Prepares lab operational performance scorecard and reports on regular and timely basis for executive leadership team.
PEOPLE
Ensures laboratory operations are meeting all regulatory requirements (FHT and FHLTAC).
Ensures a safe working environment for laboratory employees, visitors and students.
Organizes employee activities to include employee relations, interviewing potential staff, employee recognition programs, leadership training, as well as other activities to enrich work-life.
Focuses the department on reforming management and employees’ behavior and retooling operational processes to align them with improved patient outcomes through cooperation and synergistic efforts with both medical staff and nursing services and other ancillary services.
Develops positive ongoing relationships with individuals at every level of the organization including staff and peers, nursing leadership and management, medical staff members, and key decision makers.
Presents in-services and educational programs for the managers and staff.
FINANCE
Total Annual Operational Budget  FHT >$10 million and FHLTAC $0.5 Million.

Responsibilities
for both FHT and FHLTAC >60 FTEs
Develops operating and capital budgets and ensures effective use of resources including staff, equipment and supplies.
Meets departmental budget and reports monthly expense variances. Monitors and meets the productivity target.
Oversight in the planning of equipment contracts and capital purchases ensuring laboratory operations meets or exceeds available technologies.
Identifies operational, clinical, and cost reduction opportunities. Develops plans and processes for implementation, drives for the anticipated results.
OUTCOME
Specific functional areas of responsibility Ensures laboratory operations, including blood gases, are consistently compliant for certification with CLIA, State of Florida Laboratory Statutes, College of American Pathologists and Joint Commission.
Relationship with Laboratory Administration and Leadership ensuring a safe work environment.
Hardwires department performance to ensure exceptional service on an ongoing basis to achieve desired patient outcomes.
Sets the example of innovation, best practice, model compliance, professional and administrative competency, and the highest level of personal and professional integrity at his/her base facility or organization.
Develops and maintains a quality assurance program which safeguards the welfare of patients and staff. Is accountable for compliance with all applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies.
GROWTH/LEADERSHIP
Development of strategic partnerships with Administration and the community benefiting the Florida Hospital Tampa, FHLTAC and West Florida Region of AHS.
Coordinates agreements for laboratory Outreach clients.
Development and mentorship of tomorrow’s laboratory leaders.
Strategic planning for future laboratory and hospital system initiatives.
Assists non-lab departments in Laboratory Waived License application and renewal processes.
OTHER
Maintains self-education to keep abreast of latest professional development.
Is responsible for performing all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
What you will need
Extensive knowledge and skills needed to oversee laboratory testing in a tertiary hospital setting.
Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements with CLIA, State of Florida, OSHA, CAP and Joint Commission.
Demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities, organizational and service management skills.
High level of self-motivation and ability to work independently.
Excellent coaching and mentorship skills to ensure depth of knowledge in staff members needed to maintain regulatory compliance.
Quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
Analytical and problem solving skills. Experienced in process improvement.
Project implementation and superior time management skill.
Financial and productivity management.
Blood utilization management experience.
Familiar with lab information system applications.
Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.) needed to develop and maintain laboratory documents and performance improvement records.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Lean and Six Sigma (preferred)
Public speaking abilities (preferred)
Bachelor of Science or Medical Technology Degree with MT or CLS certification as generalist from an accredited university.
Eight years of laboratory management experience with proven successful track record, including five years at a leadership level.
Master’s Degree in a healthcare-related field (preferred)
Seven years at a laboratory leadership level that includes budgetary responsibilities (preferred)
Extensive lab management experience in an academic medical center or a tertiary hospital setting (preferred)
State of Florida, Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance, license at the supervisory level.
