ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology supports the vision and goals of USF Health and the College of Medicine. The department consists of 30 faculty members, numerous postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, scientific/research staff, and a large team of administrative staff.
Our researchers have expertise in systems physiology, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory dysfunction, metabolic/kidney disease, neurophysiology and neurodegenerative disorders. The goal of our research programs is to translate studies that decipher mechanisms of diseases or discover novel diagnostic/therapeutic targets into improved health care.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Wang Lab in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of South Florida (USF) is recruiting a Research Technician. The overarching goal of the Wang laboratory is to understand how cellular signaling regulates specific renal mechanisms linked to kidney diseases and identify potential therapeutic targets for the improvement of renal function and long-term graft survival after organ transplantation. The research programs of the Wang lab are funded by the National Institutes of Health (R01DK122050) and the American Heart Association (18CDA34110441).
The Research Technician conducts specific molecular and cell biological experiments utilizing rodents as research models for human disease. This position requires proficiency in standard laboratory techniques including PCR, mammalian tissue culture, DNA and protein electrophoresis, immunoblotting and immunofluorescence microscopy,
molecular cloning.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Utilizes rodents as research models for human disease. Performs basic research animal duties, including blood sampling, post-mortem tissue isolation and compound administration by I.P. and I.V. injection, mouse husbandry and animal microsurgeries such as vessel cannulation, renal ischemia reperfusion injury induction, radio-transmitter implantation.
• Conducts specific molecular and cell biological experiments, both independently and under supervision when required. Performs standard laboratory techniques including PCR, mammalian tissue culture, DNA and protein electrophoresis, immunoblotting and immunofluorescence microscopy, molecular cloning.
• Facilitates the ordering of general lab supplies, perform basic laboratory housekeeping duties, organize and inventory reagents, and facilitate equipment utilization and up-keep.
• Mentors new lab members and undergraduate students on techniques and lab rules.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
• This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of laboratory or research experience.
• College coursework in a natural or physical science may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.
PREFERRED:
• Bachelor degree in Biochemistry, Biology, physiology or medical science.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
• Must be proficient in standard laboratory techniques including PCR, mammalian tissue culture, DNA and protein electrophoresis, immunoblotting and immunofluorescence microscopy, molecular cloning.
