Role Value Proposition:
We are seeking a Sr Benefits Calculation Analyst to join us in our Tampa office or to work remotely within the US. Key responsibility is to prepare and review pension benefit calculations by reading and interpreting contract language to find allowable options, eligibility requirements, and methods of calculation. Researches contract listings and other records to determine exact defined benefit purchased for annuitant. Troubleshoots mainframe calculations, develop, maintain, and possibly repair calculation spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel, and utilize other miscellaneous calculation tools. Interprets requests and interacts with other departments to obtain needed results, assists with building, testing and moving new products to production. As needed, assists with new sales of Closeout annuity contracts by reviewing contract for a calculation perspective. Work on special projects as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare and review pension benefit calculations within specified timeframes.  Locate contract specified in request; determine personal information and exact defined benefit purchased for annuitant, and cross- check annuitant’s request against contract rules, eligibility requirements, and parameters to determine allowable options.  Using appropriate method (spreadsheet, manual, etc) perform pension benefit calculations.  Send calculation to the checker to verify accuracy.  Upon receipt of calculation which requires review, verify the calculations’ accuracy and scan into the imaging system.  If inaccuracies are found, send back with explanation of the changes needed to analyst for recalculation.  Address follow-up questions from Administrative staff.
• Prepare contracts for automated calculation or build spreadsheet tool.  Review contracts to be loaded and interpret contract language to determine parameters.
• On a monthly or annual basis, utilize a standard rates program and generate needed rate tables for conversion options, lumps sums, or cash surrenders. Verify calculation methodology is clearly defined. Create and or review sample calculations.
• Confirm the calculation viability of newly sold contracts.  Review offer letters on new contracts to ensure calculation viability.  If additional verification is required submit questions to pricing or contract unit or client.  Review samples of calculation provided by client’s actuary. Provide conversion tables per contract.  Review final contract draft.
• Provide training to new benefit calculation analysts and administrators. Provide feedback and guidance to prevent future errors in submissions or calculation methods.
• Resolve calculation issues and build effective relationships with internal partners.  Make necessary modifications.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:
• 3+ years of related experience
• HS diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Able to read and interpret defined benefit defined benefit contract language; understanding of pension products and operations, actuarial concepts and calculation methods
• Able to create, use, and repair calculation models in excel and perform calculations for Early retirement, late retirement, conversion of annuity form, and lump sums or cash settlements. Perform calculation for pre and post commencement deaths.
• Able to utilize Excel tools that may not be fully provisioned for eligibility rules, and review contract to ensure tool is used correctly.
• Able to work effectively independently and as a team player and to identify and meet customer needs
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, communication skills, analytical & math skills with attentio to detail
Preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree in Math, statistics, Finance, or Actuarial Scienc
