Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position manages Checkers/Rally’s logistics and distribution network to ensure the requirements for continuity of supply, food safety, freight cost efficiencies, and general distribution are followed.
This position reports to the VP of Supply Chain. The Director of Distribution will plan, direct, and/or coordinate the storage, facilities, transportation and distribution operations necessary to service all Checkers & Rally’s restaurants. This position interacts regularly with Operations, Franchisees, Finance, QA, Food Safety and Purchasing Departments at all levels. In order to be successful, the candidate must have a firm understanding of inventory control practices, material handling, 3PL logistics and shipping processes.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Review, develop and present business cases to quantify logistics and distribution network programs.
• Drive and develop for presentation to management the results of negotiations for proposed contractual obligations to manage logistics and distribution transitions as applicable.
• Manages and supervises Distribution Specialist in LTO/Promotions Program Manager for planning. Oversees and manages promotional projects and communication of forecasting information, food cost calculations, inventory management, and production planning.
• Working closely with suppliers and distributors in successful launch of marketing programs to drive sales.
• Manages resolution of all operational issues relating to day-to-day logistics services to the restaurants and to the complete distribution network.
• Develops and implements logistics strategies to lower support efficient inbound logistics cost.
• Manages carrier/3PL relationships to insure supply and drive efficiencies throughout the distribution platforms.
• Works with key stakeholders on problem resolution of systemic logistics and distribution issues.
• Formulates recommendations and communicates regularly with Senior Management, Franchise and Company Operations, and Cross Functional Team to ensure continued supply of product and potential inventory exposure.
• Promptly responds to all requests from all stakeholders.
• Always display a sense of urgency
• Creates and manages RFP process for logistics, distribution, and re-distribution networks.
• For distributor selection, along with QA & Food Safety tours/inspects facilities/terminals of current and prospective distributors to ensure Checkers/Rally’s standards are being met.
• Ensures all logistics and distributors are under contract and in compliance of those agreements.
• Manages transition relating to awards of business based on RFP business cases.
• Coordinates the execution of all logistics and distributor vendor agreements.
• Collects all agreed upon reports
• Acts as a contact for category managers, vendors and mainline distribution centers.
• Effectively works toward all goals and timelines established by the Vice President of Supply Chain.
• Assists in approving logistics/distribution vendor partners to ensure Checkers/Rally’s distribution and quality assurance standards are met.
• Communicates effectively with key stake holders to ensure that Checkers/Rally’s has been invoiced correctly by our distributors. Audits performed where necessary and within contractual obligations.
• Continually updates the logistics and distributor requirements as needed.
• Monthly monitoring of all set KPI’s and logistics services to mainline distribution network to ensure agreed upon standards are met.
• Organizes semi-annual business reviews for all logistics and distributor vendor partners.
• Attends operations and franchisee meetings as necessary
• Performs other duties as assigned
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Prior Experience:
• 10+ years of logistics and/or distribution management experience.
• QSR logistics and operations experience is required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office–Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
Education:
• 4 year college degree (BA/BS) in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Logistics, Transportation, Business or other related disciplines.
Knowledge:
• Technical Knowledge: demonstrates mastery of technical knowledge of product procurement and distribution including agreements, distributor requirements, warehousing, freight, etc. and proficiency interfacing between vendor/customer and purchasing.
• Communication Skills: excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to deal independently with internal customers and external resources.
• Judgment/Decision Making: ability to make appropriate business judgments and decisions independently. Demonstrated ability to perform strategic thinking and planning.
• Problem Solving: ability to independently work through complex problems and derive innovative solutions/options.
• Negotiating/Analytical: ability to conduct complex negotiations and perform complex vendor/pricing analysis independently.
• Interpersonal Skills: ability to build effective organization relationships inside and outside the department; ability to inspire trust via open, candid relationships, fair treatment and behavior consistent with expressed beliefs and commitments.

• Other: strong ability to elicit internal and external support; strong interpersonal skills; strong ability to work under pressure and short time lines, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

• Ability to sit for prolonged periods in one location which may be restricted to the employee’s workstation.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Ability to Travel may be required to attend off-site training, meetings and seminars.
