Job Description:
Essential Functions
• Establish relationships with key technical counterparts of our customers.
• Work with customers in North and South America to solve their technical issues.
• Maintain good working relationships to foresee critical shifts in market requirements, understanding the perception of Daramic’s products and service and finally to make sure we are meeting the needs in the appropriate manner so that we can continue healthy business relationships.
• To maintain our leadership position, it will be critical for the Director of Technical Services to communicate this to appropriate personnel within our business in a manner which is intelligible to         our experience.  For instance, new demands upon the battery manufacturer will need to be translated into Daramic vernacular.
• Maintain excellent and regular communication with the Daramic’s other Technical Service Centers.  This will be necessary to accomplish many of the extensive testing and trials, with the appropriate Sales personnel so they may coordinate customer visits and with the Site Managers regarding any ongoing technical work.
• Responsible for proposing, monitoring and executing jointly developed plans with customers to meet their technical requirements. These plans are to be balanced as they will take into account the customer’s requests and Daramic’s capabilities.
• Provide internal technical support as required to Quality Sales, and Manufacturing and Finance. This technical support may involve specifications, test methods, raw materials, process changes, formulas, separator properties and end use application.
• When a new product and/or new process is developed, it will be the prime responsibility the Director to oversee the technical introduction into the area.  This presupposes that the Director is working closely with ATC/ETC and understands the technical development so that it can be explained to internal colleagues and appropriately to customers and/or suppliers
• Ensure that high level managers are appropriately trained in the basics of separators and batteries, especially those that visit the customers.
• Responsible for the compliance of Laboratories in his respective area and meeting all company and government regulations.  To accomplish; secure advice of competent divisional EH&S executives, engineering groups and insurance inspectors.  Installing and overseeing the execution of appropriate programs by plant management.
• Implement and maintain ISO 14000
• Participate in the development and oversight of Technical Work plans and WW Key projects as they require technical input.
• Responsible for ensuring Technical work plans are appropriately executed in their respective regions.
• Responsible to propose and oversee departmental and appropriate capital budgets
• Provide Sales support to select customers’, develop and maintain strong relationships with customers’ key decision makers and organizational leadership:  understand the market and develop relationships with the industry to support our market penetration,; develop and achieve annual sales budget, including customer mix, product mix, pricing, market share targets and profitability: provide regular reports on sales activities and forecasts (revenue, product mix).
Sedentary Work
• General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. Lighting and temperature is adequate. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard equipment available. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount to force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Education :
• Bachelors Degree in Science or Engineering
Professional Experience:
• 5-10 years experience working as an engineer for a battery manufacturer or supplier
Communications:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills/manufacturing experience preferred.
Languages:
• English
Skills:
• Knowledge of lead-acid battery chemistry, manufacturing processes and technology
