The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a GREAT PLAINS ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST for the Florida Divisional Headquarters located in Lutz, Florida.
Job Summary
Trains, monitors, analyzes, supervises, and supports the financial operations of the Great Plains software for the assigned Region within the Division including accounts receivables, accounts payables, payroll and the audit of the regional locations; ensures the financial integrity including accurate financial records; compiles and interprets financial information including cost and cash flow analysis and advises the Commanding Officers regarding the same.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organizational structure.
Knowledge of accepted principles, methods, and practices of modern accounting, finance, budgeting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Knowledge of Lotus 123, Excel and accounting software in general.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of general business administration, supervision and management.
Skills in the use of Personal Computers, laptop computers, mouse, modem and fax.
Ability to evaluate the organizations accounting and financial functions, respond to deficiencies by identifying and implementing appropriate corrective actions, develop and administer sound policies, procedures and budgets, and oversee the work of others.
Ability to integrate and interpret data from various sources and to plan, develop, and implement responsible strategies.
Ability to scrutinize financial reports and documents ensuring integrity, accuracy and completeness of the same.
Ability to make sound, logical interpretations of established guidelines and regulations quickly.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in an effective and professional manner.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial records.
Ability to build and maintain effective professional working relationships with employees, officers, and professional in the community.
Ability to discharge the duties and responsibilities of this position consistent with the principles, standards, and the Orders and Regulations of the Salvation Army.
Ability to conduct the affairs of this office responsibly, efficiently, and economically.
Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Salvation Army officers and employees, and professionals in the community.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, And Four years work in accounting accompanied by experience working in a religious, charitable organization preferred, Or Any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Florida Drivers License.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically.
Ability to operate various general office equipment including a telephone, typewriter, computer, fax machine and adding machine.
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking to persons requiring assistance.
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
Ability to plan work priorities, evaluate work performances and provide recommendations for improving productivity and efficiency of work.
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing in an effective and professional manner including the providing of clear instructions to employees.
Ability to travel to various locations, which may include overnight stays for, extended periods of time.
Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints.
Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality.
Ability and willingness to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, culture, and protocol of The Salvation Army and conducts all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
Work may be performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like but not limited to the office environment with the exception of travel conditions.
