Summary:
Assist client employees with enrollment and benefit questions and create sales opportunities. It is anticipated that a Benefits Enrollment Counselor receive significant sales commissions as part of this role, potentially in excess of 20% of total earnings.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Follows company procedures with respect to all essential duties and responsibilities of the job.
• Perform administrative tasks related to all types of employee benefit programs for client employees, including group medical, dental, vision, life, disability, Health Savings Accounts, Flexible Spending Accounts, and retirement accounts.
• Communicate benefits information to clients’ employees, including in-person meetings and presentations and one-on-one support.
• Lead or assist in leading open enrollment activities for client employees. The activities include project planning, communications, client system updates, and processing enrollment changes.
• Serves as a primary day-to-day point of contact regarding the employee benefits enrollment process for client employees.
• Assists client employees with completing benefits enrollment process, including but not limited to providing advice as to which benefits are available and/or appropriate and using independent judgment to evaluate client employee’s benefits needs.
• Assesses client employee’s benefits needs and uses independent discretion to create sales opportunity by matching client employee needs to appropriate ancillary benefits.
• Resolve client employee issues and complaints through customer service.
• Work with benefit plan providers (carriers) in plan administration and problem resolution to address client issues or complaints.
• Responds to requests for information.
• Process employee demographic changes in administrative systems, not limited to new hire, annual enrollment, qualifying life events and terminations.
• Process employee enrollment changes with benefit plan provider (carrier) systems, through both electronic enrollment files and carrier web portals.
• Manage client business process and identify areas of continued improvement, formulating recommendations to update client business processes and operating practices, as required
• Serve as a subject matter expert on the client’s plans and administrative procedures and as the key resource for day-to-day issues. Direct the team on handling plan or client specific questions, keeping team updated on client specific information.
• Meet minimum performance standards required to maintain employment, Qualitative and Quantitative.
• Inputs data into client management system.
• Prepare invoices for submission to client.
• Prepare vouchers for submission to Finance for payment of benefit premiums to carriers.
• Perform carrier billing reconciliation (carrier bill versus benefits system).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:
• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the employee benefits industry.  Ability to demonstrate specialist-level knowledge of employee benefits and demonstrated experience in assessing customer needs and solving problems.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
• Licensed Insurance Agent: Life and Health Lines of Authority.
• Maintain Life and Health Insurance License in all required states as well as Certifications (e.g. LTC) and the completion of the necessary continuing education of their respective resident state within the deadlines provided by that state.
