ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
POSITION SUMMARY:
USF Dept of Surgery Division of Research; Data Analytics Research Team follows the mission and vision of its University through the delivery of high quality and high producing research activity.   In carrying out its mission, our research team values: physicians, community and collaboration, integrity and ethical behavior, flexibility, adaptability, innovation, quality and efficiency. This position reports directly to the Chair of Surgery and must be able to work with limited direction day-to-day.
1.  Maintain and update suite of Dept health outcome databases and analytic software (R, Python, SAS and Stata).
2.  Maintain server/workstation software and hardware and database integrity/formatting.
3.  Conduct and supervise machine learning/AI approaches to data analysis for faculty, residents, students and volunteer researchers.
4.  Conduct independent research projects in clinical predictive analytics.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: Advanced database management (HCUP SID, HCUP SASD, HCUP NIS, AHA, NSQIP, NTDB, CMS databases.), access, integration and security with AI-based analyses including data cleaning according to defined criteria and preliminary, ongoing, and final statistical analyses and/or predictive/data modeling;   Manages the cloud computing resources; Monitors relational databases to optimize database performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases; addresses a variety of database integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications; Maintains availability and integrity of databases through multiple access schemes; facilitates sharing of common data by overseeing proper key and index management and data dictionary maintenance; Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
In collaboration with the Surgery chair, consults and advises on the build of sophisticated Big Data predictive models (R, SAS or Python preferred) to test hypothetical relationships. Present timely, up-to-date data for time sensitive abstract/manuscript deadlines.
RESEARCH DUTIES: Conducts advanced literature searches on methodological and analytic issues and assist with drafting and reviewing of publications. Ensures continuous monitoring of the consistency and quality of data.  Coordinates the submission of grant proposals to internal and external entities. Ensure to maintain and update the suite of databases, and continuously work to explore new databases that can be used to perform health outcomes research.
TEACHING DUTIES: Provides advanced statistical support, consultation, and training for students working on projects. Provides support to teach fellow researchers on sub setting project specific data bases on procedure/diagnosis codes including but not limited to ICD9 procedure codes, CPT codes etc. Assume to role to teach Statistical Analysis packages/software including but not limited to R, Python Stata for the purpose of data cleaning, preparation and predictive modelling for research projects.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of related professional experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and five years of related professional experience.  Consistent with university guidelines, qualifying experience and/or training may substitute for the degree requirement for some positions assigned to this class.
Excellent analytical and planning skills. Strong writing and database management skills. Must be detail and deadline oriented.  Must be able to serve as an expert resource and educate others on appropriate utilization of data and data access system to support the delivery of research excellence.
PREFERRED:
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with investigators, research staff at USF, other universities, and the project manager at the Federal Government Agency. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
