JOB SUMMARY:
A Research Services Administrator is responsible for the administration of various central research programs, projects, services, or functions to include program planning, implementation, and evaluation.  This job performs administrative functions directly related to central research administration.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This position generally reports to a member of the central research administration office with administrative duties, such as an Associate or Assistant Vice President or Director.   Research Services Administrators are involved in a broad range of administrative duties supporting research , including such matters as researching and recommending new programs and/or  revisions to existing programs, establishing and maintaining program standards and  eligibility requirements, researching and administering accreditation matters, planning events,  developing written communications, promoting and marketing programs and events, and administering other special projects in support of significant long-term and short-term division objectives.  A Research Services Administrator must maintain extensive knowledge of university, vice presidential area, and department policies and procedures, and be able to interpret and apply them to support faculty, staff, and student clients.  The position investigates and resolves complaints and problems on behalf of management, using own judgment.  This administrative and analytical work is directly related to the research mission of the university, requiring the application of discretion and judgment on matters of significance   As such, the duties of this position are intended to qualify for exempt status under the administrative duties exemption of the Fair Labor Standards Act.  The duties of this position are distinguished from positions providing general business administration support to departments, which would not be appropriate for this classification.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
• Administers policies and advises faculty, staff, and students on policy matters related to various research programs.
• Assists with USF System and statewide program development, implementation, and assessment.  Tracks performance metrics.  Recommends and implements improvements to programs.
• Supervises staff supporting the research program to maximize program support.
• Analyzes quantitative and qualitative data to produce reports for internal and external use, including national accreditation reviews.
• Writes reports and prepares presentations to support and/or promote research programs.
• Researches and writes promotional and informational materials for posting on web pages and distributing to media outlets.
• Creates outreach programs.  Develops the schedule for educational and research events, determining and/or recommending appropriate participants and venues. Coordinates event space requirements, speakers, logistics, and marketing. Develops and manages ad hoc support teams to accomplish outreach goals.
• Administers internal grants program for funding events, recruiting and communicating with proposal reviewers, notifying recipients, allocating and tracking awarded funds and serving as a liaison with the USFRI Budget Analyst to ensure transfers are made and funding levels are maintained.  Ensures the appropriate use of the program logo and communicates event details to university publication resources and external media outlets for announcement and event calendar posting.
• Serves as a liaison with other academic and administrative departments regarding      research programs, representing research programs on cross-functional teams, policy committees, and work groups.
• Assists with the administration of the system-wide faculty awards program.  Initiates nomination for faculty, collects and reports metrics, serves as a liaison with central institutional data offices for reporting benchmark data to the Board of Governors.
• Coordinates accreditation processes.
• Performs other significant administrative and analytical duties supporting the research mission of the USF System, division, department, or unit.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a master's degree  in an appropriate field of study, or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate field and two years of experience in administrative services.  Four additional years of directly relevant and progressively responsible administrative experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
