Classification Nonexempt.
Summary/Objective
The heavy equipment operator will have extensive experience and skills in heavy equipment operations involving mass excavations; clearing and grubbing; backfilling and compacting; excavating and pipe laying; and construction and maintenance of embankments, berms, and dikes.

Essential Functions
• Interprets information on grade stakes, grades to final grade, finishes slopes and mixes soil stabilization materials with grader.
• Ability to safely perform physical duties associated with operation of heavy equipment including but not limited to bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, climbing into and out of, and around heavy equipment.
• Inspects equipment prior to each use; and makes appropriate, accurate, and timely entries into the operator’s checklist / equipment log for each piece of equipment operated. Immediately, reports any equipment damage, maintenance problems or concerns, or safety issues to the Foreman and/or Superintendent.
• Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing or via radio.
• Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries, wear all site specific mandated protective equipment including but not limited to hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots and safety glasses.
• Adhere to all traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in heavy equipment operation
• Ability to read, understands, follow, and enforce safety procedures and prepare written reports and forms.
• Work independently in the absence of supervision
• Read and interpret maps, sketches, drawings, specifications and technical manuals
• Works with and assists the line crew in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe, road grater or front-end loader.
• Adhere to OSHA safety requirements. Wear mandated protective equipment and clothing.
• Complete and pass all training requirements and attend all safety training programs as required.
• Exercise the right, responsibility, and obligation to stop work when knowledgeable of job hazards.
• Ability to work safely in a wide variety of climatic conditions and job site environments commonly found at Moretrench job sites.
• Complete and pass annual phosphate training and attend all safety training programs related to job.

Supervisory Responsibility - This position has no supervision responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Physical Demands
• The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell.
• The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

Additional Eligibility Qualifications (Project Specific)
• Must be 18 years or older and have a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment
• Valid Drivers License
• Valid CDL License.
• Detailed Back-Ground Check
• Job may require out of town and even overnight travel.
