USF Information Technology (USF IT) provides technology services and support for the University of South Florida. The IT team, led by the Vice President and CIO, provides the following services: Administrative Services, Client Support, Communication Services, Teaching and Learning, Analytics and Reporting, Mobile and Web Services, Consulting Services, Cybersecurity Service and Research Technologies.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Research System Technician responds to requests/issues that are related to Research Systems, including hardware, software, networking or other technical problems or needs. The Research System Technician uses specialized skills, knowledge, tools, and authority to fulfill the requests or diagnose and remedy issues. Proficiency in directly supporting hardware and working in Windows, OSX, and Linux operating systems. Support will primarily occur at the User's desk or, when authorized, using a remote session. This position will have direct contact with Project Teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform initial installation and configuration of information technology hardware, software, and peripherals.  Provide ongoing technical support for duration of Project's lifecycle (implementation to closeout).
• Receive and prepare new and upgraded computers to be connected to computer networks, including necessary hardware and software on existing computers.
• Diagnose and provide support on computer system problems, including debugging, correcting, repairing, servicing, examining, installing and troubleshooting computer hardware, printers, and other peripherals.
• Enter detailed information regarding work performed for each incident or service request in the service management system. Create artifacts to document baselines, modifications, and data destruction.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with two years of customer service or IT experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
PREFERRED:
Three years of experience in direct, hands-on desktop support.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
General understanding of Information Security concepts and practices. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
