Full Job Description
Island Health has an opportunity for a 0.6 FTE Associate Chief Medical Information Officer (ACMIO). In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Chief Medical Information Officer, the Associate Chief Medical Information Officer
co-leads the implementation of the IHealth information system and related standardization initiatives within the organization and communities of care. The ACMIO champions and supports an interdisciplinary approach to development and implementation of clinical standards, processes and technology enabled workflows, and specifically is responsible for ordering provider workflows with the appropriate involvement and engagement of Ordering Providers (Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Midwives). The ACMIO serves as an advocate and coach to Ordering Providers and promotes the use of information, information technologies and associated clinical decision supports to assist clinicians in delivery of patient care, quality improvement, clinical analytics, and research.
The Associate Chief Medical Information Officer ensures that clinical process is the foundation for all phases of the IHealth project. They promote enhanced integration of services and care practices across the continuum, better service delivery, improved provider and patient satisfaction, improved health outcomes, and the delivery of cost-efficiencies for the health organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Co-leads, with the CMIO and Clinical Informatics Leadership, enterprise standardization initiatives, clinical change and transformation activities, implementation of the Electronic Health Record, and related information systems across communities of care or settings
• Champions and leads the engagement and involvement of Ordering Providers
• Along with the CMIO, recruits, collaborates, supports, manages expectations, and acts as a coach to physicians that will be IHealth champions, and other participants in IHealth
• Supports adoption of the Electronic Health Record
• Supports other enterprise project activities specifically as it relates to the incorporation of the Electronic Health Record and related technologies and best practices
• Leads, facilitates, and participates in clinical and informatics related decision-making groups and committees; promotes the agreed upon clinical solutions and directions that are in alignment with IHealth and other Island Health strategic objectives
• Identifies opportunities to leverage data and analytics to improve patient care and outcomes through the use of advanced technologies
• Acts as a liaison and advocate to the medical staff in positively promoting the use of information and information technology to assist in the delivery of excellent patient care, quality improvement, and research efforts
• Assures that the core capabilities and services of clinical and research groups are met and/or enhanced by the functionality of the implemented information systems
• Supports the mission, vision, values, and ethical framework policies and procedures of the Health Organization
• Performs other duties as assigned
