The Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer, an 18,000-circulation daily newspaper in western Kentucky, is seeking a full-time general assignment reporter to primarily cover one of our outlying counties. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated with a positive attitude, has at least some reporting experience at a weekly newspaper, feels comfortable asking tough questions and is able to handle a variety of assignments.
The successful candidate will work out of the daily newspaper office alongside seasoned veterans and provide coverage for the McLean County News, a nearby weekly paper. This person will also write several stories each week for the Messenger-Inquirer.
Owensboro is a growing and vibrant community along the Ohio River. We’re two hours from Louisville and Nashville, and three hours from St. Louis.

The Messenger-Inquirer and the McLean County News are part of a growing newspaper chain of small to mid-size daily and weekly papers, primarily in the midwest and south.
